My wifes computer is stuck in a login loop. The computer will login you in, the desktop without any icons will display briefly, and then windows log you out. I can start in safe mode with network support and have tried running many different spyware/virus packages to no avail. Here is the log from Hijackthis, I would appreciate if anyone can see something that is causing this.

Thanks in advance,

Carl

Hi, Sorry to hear of the problems with your machine. I see that Ken has asked you to come here before returning to the malware removal forum once you can get your machine to boot normally. Please boot into safe mode and see if you can run System Restore and put your machine back to a time before the boot problem started, this is a slim chance but worth trying. Let us know how you go. Regards paws
Thanks Paws, That was already tried, with no luck….. since I have been listening to my wife complain about booting into safe mode for about two weeks, I figured I have nothing to loose as I have the Dell restore CD. dayam the torpedoes, full speed ahead, I analyzed the HJ log, made some corrections, ran some other spyware, virus software, and……… IT IS ALIIIIVE!!!!!!!!. Been running for a few days now with no glitches or hitches. I think I got it and told my wife to stop downloading all the junk games she does. THanks for the Help!!!! Carl
Hi Carl, That is good news well done! sometimes when you feel there is nothing to lose things start going well! When you are sure that your machine is really good, virus and spyware free, stable, all unneccessary applications uninstalled, defragged to within an inch of its life, after clearing out all cache, temp files etc, and with antivirus updated all Windows critical updates installed and 2 way fire wall checking everything both incoming and outgoing, then its time to consider making a disc image. Use something like Ghost, Paragon, Drive Image Acronis or other disc imaging application. In the event of serious trouble that can't be overcome by more conservative means just restore your image and your machine will be back in the exact state it was in when you took the disc image. Make sure that any data files you have created since your image was taken are copied/backed up/archived to removabe media and checked for accuracy and easily reproducible. If serious trouble does strike then you will be able to put your machine back to its disc image state in about an hour or maybe less (takes me about 40 minutes or so!) Regards paws
Thanks for the advice Paws. The wife is not as diligent about net safety as i am. Need to get her on board. Thanks Again!!! Carl
