This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. It will create a file named:
c:\rapport.txt

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Please post:
C:\rapport.txt
First of all I would like to thank you for your help. Also please excuse the delay in replying but as i am in Europe and you are in the Us, there is a time difference. Did as instructed and all ok. Only on AVG Anti-Spyware when I clicked reports it came up with "no files availabe" so I could not select anything. Running the Clean

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.

[external image: Posted Image]

The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads a text that will open (report.txt) Please save this file, you'll need to post it with a new HijackThis log.

Next:
Click Start> Run> type in CMD tap enter key
Copy/Paste: ipconfig /flushdns <– Note the space between g /f. It needs to be there.

Now lets check some settings on your system.
Enter your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections

Then right click on your Default Connection
Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL
Left click on Properties
Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item
Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two

Reboot and "copy/paste" the text file (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
LDTate

Thanks for your help. My PC is OK and the problem I have is more annoying than anything else. I did as instructed and requested reports are copied hereunder. When I rebooted I got a recurring pop-up. I don't know if it is of any interest but the address is: http://www.toptvbytes.com/index.aspx?pid=10048&SID=17579

Thanks again.

Are you using this P2P?
piolet.exe is installed with the Piolet P2P file sharing client

Here is the list on 'good and bad'P2P programs.
http://p2p.malwareremoval.com/

SystemDoctor
A program of dubious_repute Gives exaggerated reports of threats on the computer. The risk then prompts the user to purchase a registered version of the software in order to remove the reported threats.
I suggest you uninstall them.

1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2.Next, open Add/Remove Programs and remove if listed:
SystemDoctor
Piolet

Next:

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall
Hi LDTate

Did as instructed. Piolet was removed but did not find SystemDoctor in programs. I think I was tricked into downloading this and then deleted it instead of using uninstall, not realising it was a program.

Combofix log (it took about 3 minutes) and new HiJackthis log attached.

As always, thanks for your help and patience.

Pete
