Symptoms:
Generally slow running
Missing Shutdown, & run buttons, unable to manually view them, option not listed?!
Pop up ads from IE when browsing with Firefox
Had dealioau.exe pop up in the command propmt at start up
I've ran Ad-Aware, CCleaner, and Norton removed some stuff..symptoms are still present.
Please help me get my computer back to normal. Thanks in advance.

Hi, jcjeeperand welcome to Tom Coyote forums

Seems your second log is hiding the Infection.

Please go to the C:\Program Files\HijackThis folder. Right click on the HijackThis.exe file and select "Rename". Rename it removal.exe,

Then run HijackThis again and post a new log please.

Thanks dan

Just an FYI Dan, (not sure if it matters)
Computer is not connected to the internet at this time.
Also, hijack.exe is located C:\hijackthis (now renamed removal.exe)

Thanks!
Jeremy

Hi, jcjeeper,

Connect back to the net or download from another machine and transfer by some portable media.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Please post vundofix.txt and a new HJT log in your next post.
Thanks dan

Hi, jcjeeper,

Optional - VIEWPOINT MANAGER
Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.co...cle.php/3561546
Additional info:Here
I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
  • Viewpoint Toolbar
Your call.

___________________

To provide a satisfying consumer experience and to operate effectively, the Viewpoint Media Player periodically sends information to servers at Viewpoint.
Each installation of the Viewpoint Media Player is identifiable to Viewpoint via a Customer Unique Identifier (CUID), an alphanumeric identifier embedded in the Viewpoint Media Player.
The Viewpoint Media Player randomly generates the CUID during installation and uses it to indicate a unique installation of the product. A CUID is never connected to a user's name, email address, or other personal contact information.
CUIDs are used for the sole purpose of filtering redundant information. Each of these information exchanges occurs anonymously.'

Hi, returned scans were ok just a few bits to tidy up

You can permanently delete the file in quarantine if you so desire.
Delete Norton files from Quarantine

Let's go ahead and delete those files from Quarantine.
WARNING: Do not do this unless you are sure that you do not need the files that are in Quarantine. Files removed from Quarantine are not placed in the Recycle bin. Removing files from Quarantine will permanently delete the files from the computer.
----------------------------------
Go to the section that describes your version of Norton AntiVirus and follow the steps.

To remove Norton AntiVirus 2006 files from Norton Quarantine and Restore
  • Start Norton AntiVirus.
  • If Norton AntiVirus is installed as part of Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security, then start that program and click Norton AntiVirus.
  • In the left pane, click Reports.
  • Click View Norton Quarantined and Restore
  • In the left pane, select the type of risk that you want to remove.
  • In the right pane, select the files that you want to remove.
  • To select multiple items, press and hold down the Ctrl key while clicking the items that you want to select for deletion. To select everything in Quarantine, click the first item in the list, and then press Shift+End.
  • Click Delete Item.
  • When prompted "Warning! Are you sure that you want to remove this item from Quarantine," click Yes.
  • Close the Quarantine window, and then exit Norton AntiVirus.

Now you can clean AVG's Quarantine:
  • Open AVG Anti-Spyware
  • Click Infections
  • Click Quarantine tab
  • Click Select all
  • Click Remove finally
  • Close the program
You can remove the tools we used.

It's also a good idea to Flush your System Restore points after ridding yourself of malware:
  • Click Start | Help and Support | Undo changes to your computer with System Restore.
  • Click Create A Restore Point then click Next. Give it a name it and then click Create, then Close.
  • Close the Help and Support Center box.
  • Click Start | Run and type Cleanmgr
  • Select (C: ) then click OK.
  • Click the More Options tab.
  • Click Clean Up in the System Restore Section.
This will remove all previous restore points except the newly created one.

Right click start, In the drop down menu click "Explore" Then navigate to each file\ folder in the left hand pane, which will reveal its content in the right hand pane, highlight file or folder right click and Delete, if present:

C:\VundoFix Backups << This folder

Well I haven't done anything in the latest reply (do not have acess to that computer at the moment). But I noticed that there is nothing about getting my buttons back. I am currently missing "run" & "shutdown." I am unable to manually add these features back because they are either greyed out (cannot click) or unavailable. Example: I hit crtl, alt ,delete and everything under the "shutdown" menue is unable to be clicked on. The computer seems to be rnning fine. But I would really liek these features to be available. What can I do? Thanks!

Hi, jcjeeper Check this for me 0. Right-click the Taskbar and select Properties. 1. Select Start Menu. 2. Click on Customize. 3. Click on Advanced. 4. Look for a check box for Run command in the option window. Check the box.

There is no "run" box to check. I know that normally this is how I could add/remove that feature. But the spyware/virus made those features unavailable. Any suggestions?

Hi, jcjeeper

First backup Your Registry with ERUNT:
  • Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.
    http://aumha.org/freeware/freeware.php
  • For version with the Installer: use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
  • For the zipped version: Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice, such as C:\ERUNT
Run ERUNT from the start menu, or double-click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.
Note: to restore your registry, go to the backup folder and start ERDNT.exe

Then, open Notepad (press Start->Run, enter notepad and press OK)
Copy everything inside the code box below (Starting with REGEDIT4) and paste it into a new notepad file.
Change the Save As Type to All Files and save it as fix.reg to your Desktop.

Note: Please copy and paste all the text at once, and check that there is NO blank line above REGEDIT4 and one blank line at the bottom.
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoRun"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoClose"=dword:0000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoLogOff"=dword:0000000
Locate fix.reg on your Desktop, if you did it right it should look like this:Posted Image
Double-click it, when it asks if you want to merge with the registry, click Yes.

Let me know how things go

Alright! It looks like all the functions that were previously missing have returned. The only thing I noticed was that in the task manager (crtl, alt delete) under shutdown the hibernate function is still unavailable. I believe it was previously available. Also (minor I know) how can I get the all programs (under start) to expand sideways rather than having to scroll down. Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks for all your help. Of all the programs what would you suggest I keep installed?
