Not quite sure what I got into but for the past week my pc has been running extremely SLOW. Then about two days ago it just started shutting off for no reason. Every time I try to run Mcfee or adware, the computer again shuts down. Please help me with this. Thanks

Welcome to Tom Coyote . Sorry about the delay in responding but we are as most times just overwhelmed with logs.

You need to enable windows to show all files and folders, instructions Here

Go to Start > Run and type in Notepad
Notepad will open
Copy and paste the following into NotePad

sc stop lmhsvc
sc delete lmhsvc

sc stop SysEnforce
sc delete SysEnforce

  • Click File > Save as >type in cmd.bat
  • Under "Save as type" Select All files
  • Save it to your Desktop
  • Close Notepad
  • The cmd.bat file should now appear on your Desktop
  • Double Click cmd.bat
  • Reboot your Computer

Delete these files.

C:\PROGRA~1\TRISNA~1
C:\WINDOWS\system32\lmhsvc.exe

It's extremely important that you follow these instructions to either Remove or Quarantine what it finds and save the report for me to see, it shows what and what not was removed along with an extensive report that may lead to other infections that are not showing on your HJT log. Without me seeing the report my hands are tied.

Download and install the 30 day trial of AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 to your desktop. It's very important that I see the report so make sure you follow the instructions and save the log.
  • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
  • Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on How to Act and then select Quarantine <– Dont forget this
  • Under Reports
  • Select Automatically generate report after every scan
  • Un-Select Only if threats were found
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 <– Do not run the scan yet.
Boot your computer into Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut Off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly.
  • This will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to SAFEMODE
  • Then press the Enter on your Keyboard
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process:
  • Launch AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
  • AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  • Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
  • Next select the Reports icon at the top.
  • Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system <– Dont forget this
  • make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

Let me see the AVG log and a New HJT log please.
Hey Ken 545, First off thank you for your help… I have completed up to the cmd.bat part of this process, but when I go to run AVG, my computer shuts down about 15mins in to it  . The only thing found up til that point was a file named "adware.lop". I have tried to run AVG twice now and get the same results. The files being scanned at the time of the shut down were in my I386 folder. Now when I say it shuts down, I mean it does a hard shut down like if you were to hold down the on button. I am attaching my most current log. Thanks again

Hello,

Your HJT log looks a little lean, are you by chance running it in Safemode, if so you need to run it in normal windows or else it wont show the whole picture.

Go to where you have HJT installed and right click on the HJT Icon ( it looks like a red stick of dynamite with a plunger ) and rename it to Scanner.exe and post a new log in normal windows please.
Yes I was in safe mode when I ran it.. I hope this helps… Thanks

Good Morning,

You can remove this with HJT.
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =

The rest of your log looks fine. We can run this quick scan to see if there is anything hidden.

Download and Save Blacklight to your desktop:
  • Double-click blbeta.exe
  • Then accept the agreement
  • Click > scan then > next
  • You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).
  • Copy and paste this log in your next reply.
  • Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

Let me ask you , is your computer running HOT?? If Blacklight comes up clean this could well be a hardware issue. You did have a virus that we removed earlier but I see nothing bad on your log.
Hey Ken, I ran Blacklight and nothing was found (log attached). I understand what you are saying about a possible hardware problem, but what is strange is that my only shuts down when I run an anti-virus or spyware type program. I have again tried to run AVG, adware Se, and my mcafee and all have the same results-shutdown. Now if I dont run said program my pc will stay on all day… Is there anything else I can try to help resolve this? My only other option at this point is a re-image of the harddrive and I am still not sure that will help. Thanks, Steve 05/31/07 07:40:47 [Info]: BlackLight Engine 1.0.61 initialized 05/31/07 07:40:47 [Info]: OS: 5.1 build 2600 (Service Pack 2) 05/31/07 07:40:47 [Note]: 7019 4 05/31/07 07:40:47 [Note]: 7005 0 05/31/07 07:40:51 [Note]: 7006 0 05/31/07 07:40:51 [Note]: 7011 1860 05/31/07 07:40:52 [Note]: 7026 0 05/31/07 07:40:52 [Note]: 7026 0 05/31/07 07:40:58 [Note]: FSRAW library version 1.7.1021 05/31/07 08:13:23 [Note]: 2000 1012 05/31/07 08:13:23 [Note]: 2000 1012 05/31/07 08:13:23 [Note]: 2000 1012 05/31/07 08:13:23 [Note]: 2000 1012 05/31/07 08:13:23 [Note]: 2000 1012 05/31/07 08:13:23 [Note]: 2000 1012 05/31/07 08:13:23 [Note]: 2000 1012 05/31/07 08:17:44 [Note]: 7007 0
If you had hidden files or a rootkit type infection Blacklight would have most likely picked it up.

Try running the windows Disk Defragger and see if this shuts you down. It takes the better part of an hour, just wondering if its the length of the program running thats causing you problems.

Go to Start> All Programs> Assessories> System Tools> Disk Defragger and let it scan your C: drive

Lets try running a free online virus scanner and see if it picks anything up.

Run Panda's ActiveScan from here and perform a full system scan.
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the "Scan your PC" button
  • A new window will open…click the big "Check Now" button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It will take a couple minutes)
  • If you are on a slow connection it will take about 15 minuites for the scanner to load.
  • Click on "Local Disks" to start the scan
  • Once scan is done, click "see report" then "save report"
  • Save the log someplace you can find
  • 12. Reboot
  • Post the Panda scan results in your next reply
Ken, I was finally able to run a complete program. Panda did find a couple of things wrong. I have attached the list below. The only things it said it removed was the (2) viruses it found. I would have had to upgrade to remove the other stuff. Thanks Incident Status Location Adware:adware/tvmedia Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Jennifer\Application Data\tvmcwrd.dll Spyware:Cookie/BurstNet Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Jennifer\Cookies\jennifer@burstnet[2].txt Adware:Adware/Lop Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Jennifer\My Documents\BitDownload-setup.exe[sn_minime_61.exe] Potentially unwanted tool:Application/NirCmd.A Not disinfected C:\fixwareout\FindT\nircmd.exe Adware:Adware/Maxifiles Not disinfected C:\Program Files\ComcastToolbar.exe[²ÜÇ\nsProcess.dll] Spyware:Spyware/BetterInet Not disinfected C:\Program Files\Common Files\SearchUpgrader\system.cfg Adware:Adware/ISearch Not disinfected C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\initial.inf Virus:Trj/Downloader.MDW Disinfected C:\WINDOWS\esba-4.exe Spyware:Spyware/BetterInet Not disinfected C:\WINDOWS\INF\satmat.inf Potentially unwanted tool:application/bestoffer Not disinfected C:\WINDOWS\smdat32m.sys Virus:Trj/Agent.ASC
Panda online scan will remove viruses but not malware.

Make sure you still have windows enabled to show all files and folders and delete these files.

C:\Documents and Settings\Jennifer\Application Data\tvmcwrd.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\Jennifer\My Documents\BitDownload-setup.exe

Have you tried running the Degfrager, not that you need to run it but it does take awhile and works your hard drive, I just wanted to see if it shut down in the middle of the scan.

Reboot after deleting those files and give AVG another shot, try it both in Safemode and normal windows , which ever works. If you get it to run make sure to save and post the report.
Ken, I just finished running AVG before I read your post. I was able to make it through this time. ——————————————————— AVG Anti-Spyware - Scan Report ——————————————————— + Created at: 8:50:45 PM 05/31/2007 + Scan result: C:\Documents and Settings\Jennifer\My Documents\BitDownload-setup.exe -> Adware.Lop : No action taken. AVG just found cookies and one of the files I needed you to delete, if you have not done so yet make sure to delete this one also.

C:\Documents and Settings\Jennifer\My Documents\BitDownload-setup.exe

After you delete all those files, reboot and let me know if your system is running any better.
