Hijackthis Log....my Pc Is Acting Really Funny...help

Norton Antivirus keeps popping up telling me that it is scanning my outgoing email, but i'm not sending any. I believe my pc is being used as part of a botnet or something similar because, i did a check with ipconfig(netstat) and there are a whole bunch of conections open that I'm not using.

hi drzboruga,

I believe my pc is being used as part of a botnet

with all those mail servers looks like your right. better clean it up before your isp contacts you as sender of spam.

your hjt log is missing the very top part.

go to start>run and type in–> services.msc,<–in the list of services that comes up look for under the name column:
Npnmin2bwdm

right click on it and select properties. under the general tab:
make sure that the service status is: Stopped
and the Startup type is: disabled

next poke around the system32 directory and see if you can find:

Npnmin2bwdm.exe

next:

scan with HJT, put a checkmark beside the items below, close all windows and click fix checked.

lets try avg antispyware to see what it can dig up:

Download AVG Anti-Spyware(formerly ewido) from and save that file to your
desktop:

http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

This is a 30 day trial of the program

1. Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop
and double-click it to launch the set up program.
2. Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition
files.
3. On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "
Update now" link.
* Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a
progress bar will show the updates being installed.
4. Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of
the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
5. Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then
select "Quarantine".
6. Under "Reports"
* Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
* Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
* Lauch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
* Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab
then click on "Complete System Scan".
* ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little
time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
* If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all
actions"
* Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
* Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the
screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where
you saved that file, this is important). Please post the AVG log in next reply.

reboot computer once, rescan and post a new hjt log and the saved AVG report.

you have two antivirus running, norton and eAcceleration? only need one antivirus on a computer.

lets try doing it in safe mode:
i would copy paste this into notepad and save it somewhere so you can read it in safe mode
to reach safe mode you would tap the f8 key during a computer restart. chose the first option on the list safe mode.

once in safe mode:

scan with HJT, put a checkmark beside the items below, close all windows and click fix checked:

run option 2 (clean) of smitfraudFix:

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.

The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Some hidden system file show up with the AVG Anti-Rootkit, but if it is a hidden system file couldn't it make my computer not work. Thats what the little window said before I deleted it.

i think avg was saying that removing one of the files could make your computer not work. in case it flagged a file as a real needed system file.
and not a rootkit. ( a false positive)

a rootkit is a set of "tools" that can hide from your normal antivirus/malware apps. it takes special software to look for and find rootkits. see my "movie" link below it installs a rootkit.

download and run vundofix.exe:

* Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
* Click the Scan for Vundo button.
* Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
* You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
* Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
* When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
* Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

I can't find (Npnmin2bwdm) in Services. Is there a way to search for the file other than HJT?

I can't find (Npnmin2bwdm) in Services. Is there a way to search for the file other than HJT?


if its not listed in the service panel (services.msc) then its gone from your computer. only other way would be to maybe search for it using Start>right click>search, or to poke around in the system32 dir and look for it.

No can't find it..I guess it's gone. Also when I rebooted the files didn't add themselves to System 32. I'll do another SVG scan and post it. Thank you very much, My cousin's computer got infected so I'm gonna try to use all this to help them clean up their computer.
