Hello,

I see you have Viewpoint installed…
Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
Then, * Download Combofix to your desktop.
Doubleclick combofix.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When finished and after reboot (in case it asks to reboot), it should open a log, combofix.txt.
Post this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt - unless I ask you to.
here are the combofix and hijackthis logs. thanks a ton for your help.

Hello,

Your HijackThislog looks clean again, but we're not finished yet.

Let's deal with the rest now…

Please set your system to show all files.
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Please hide your hidden files and folders afterwards again, when we are done with this thread and your problems are solved, because above instructions to set your system to show all files, unhide legit files and folders as well.
And I don't want you to delete them because they may look suspicious. To hide them again, just perform the above instructions in the opposite way.

Delete next files and folders:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\jkkli.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\gebcy.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\laietgli.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SBO <== folder
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint <== folder
C:\Program Files\ImTOO <== folder in case you don't know it.
C:\temp <== this folder since this is no default temp folder in XP anyway and in your case this folder was created around the same time when malware was installed.
Do NOT delete any other Temp-folders anywhere else!

Then, Open notepad and copy and paste next present in the quotebox below in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\IpWins]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\runner1]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\SpyKiller]

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: [external image: Posted Image]
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.
(In case you are unsure how to create a reg file, take a look here with screenshots.)

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.
i just went through all of your instructions and the files were deleted successfully and the fix.reg applied itself correctly as well. all seems well now as i see no more popups or redirects whatsoever. is there a final check i should do just to be on the safe side?
Hi,

We removed all malware that was visible in your logs, so you should be ok here.
Just perform a scan with your McAfee to get rid of the leftovers if still present.

Also, read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.

Happy Surfing again!
