Hi There..

I use IE7 and with every second or third new window, an annoying pop-up will… well pop-up..

….everyclick, playstation 3 ads, skiing holiday ads, adjuggler etc. etc.

So far i have run the following programs:-

AVG Virus Home Ed. free,
AVG Spyware free ( done in safemode ),
Ad-aware Pro 6.0,
Spybot S&D,
Spyware Nuker,
Avast Antivirus

They found:- Virtumonde, Vundo and a Trojan that began with the letters "IN" something.. cannot recall its exact name..

Anyway, all the various programs found and removed each threat, however the pop-up problem still remains..

Any help wuld be much appreciated..

Good job.
A little cleanup and you should be good to go

You might want to keep ATF Cleaner

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

You can remove any programs I had you install. Use Add/Remove Programs to remove if listed there otherwise just delete them and empty recycle bin.

Log looks good :D

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

If you dont have any programs like these, I would recommend that you get them.
Spywareblaster,
Spywareguard.

Also get a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

Only run one Anti-Virus and Firewall program.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Do not use Ad-aware if you have McAfee's VirusScan and AntiSpyware

Safe Surfing. :D

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
by Tony Klein
Brilliant thanks… :) :) :)

I have CrapCleaner installed, so i'll run that..

I already have:-

Mcafee Firewall,
spyware nuker,
ad-aware
avg virus
avast virus

And after the stressful day i've had, i'm going to get:-

Spybot S&D, Blaster, Guard and Zone Alarm.. (( My comp. will take a lifetime to startup… ))

""""So how did I get infected in the first place?""""

No idea…. You'd think with that lot installed wouldn't happen…

I have a suspicion it was an 'Unofficial Patch' I used on my Oblivion Elder Scrolls Game.. But they have all gone now…

Thanks again for all your generous time and help….

Hopefully I won't be back soon….
avg virus avast virus I only see one running, which is good. 2 AVG's Never install more than one Antivirus and Firewall! Rather than giving you extra protection, it will decrease the reliability of it seriously! The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time. Also because more than one Antivirus and Firewall installed are not compatible with each other, it can cause system performance problems and a serious system slowdown.
BUGGER….. So which is best ? Firewall…. Mcafee Free v's Zone Alarm Free Antivirus…. AVG v's Avast.. What about Spyware progs ? Do they collide with each other ??

BUGGER…..

So which is best ?

Firewall…. Mcafee Free v's Zone Alarm Free

Antivirus…. AVG v's Avast..

What about Spyware progs ?

Do they collide with each other ??

You already have Mcafee Free firewall so I'd keep that and I only see Grisoft AVG running as your anti-virus.

Anti-Spyware programs usually just use resources, but I can't see having more then one running.

I suggest you have spywareguard and spywareblaster, along with what you have now.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU…. A MILLION THANK YOU'S.. My computer is now running super-fast again… …..What on earth do these people get out of doing that….. …..Haven't they got anything better to do, than to make up nasty little viruses and warez….. …..I hope they are struck down by a Plague of Boils on their unmentionables…..
They make lots of money stealing personal identies and redirect your browsing to purchase from their bogus web sites. You're more then welcome. Glad we were able to help Peace be with you :wavey:
