"lsass" Bogging Down Machine

Problems: I got redirected to a site "sirens.com" (yes, I know. This is a
warning). I started seeing browser popups from zedo.com. I run the latest
version of Firefox (2.0.0.3). I also run Spybot, Ad-adware, AVG Anti-Spyware, Spyware
Blaster, McAfee Personal Firewall and AVG anti-virus. I got worried and ran
full scans of all of these. I found spyware and deleted it. Remaining problem
is with "LSASS" program. I checked "LSASS" on task manager, and it is picking
up a lot of disk reads and writes, even when the machine is idle, and it seems
to be bogging the machine down a lot. I also see a process I have not seen
before, "MSASCui", which seems to run at start up and chew up a lot of memory
(could this be Windows Defender?). I have also gotten an error message dialog
box "Windows cannot find '/idlist,:676:2900,c:\'" on startup sporadically. Any
suggestions on what is going on here and how to fix it?

Thanks!!

LDTate, From the procmon listing at the top, it sounds like the problem is that the security registry is corrupted. would it make sense to use the repair version? Should I clear out "c:\windows\prefetch" Is there a way to find out what the value of the registry entry that is causing the problem and setting to some reasonable value? Again, I can't thank you enough for your help jfobrien99
Launch Notepad (Start>All Programs>Accessories), and copy/paste all the Quoted REGEDIT below to it. Don't forget to include REGEDIT4.
Save in: Desktop
File Name: fixme.reg
Save as Type: All files
Click: Save

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{CB8B69CF-31AF-40D0-A119-5A8435BC1534}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\expcab]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{CB8B69CF-31AF-40D0-A119-5A8435BC1534}]

On the desktop, doubleclick fix.reg and allow it to run. Let it merge.

Next:

Download Avenger by Swandog, and unzip it to your desktop or somewhere you can find it. (Do not run it yet).
http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/avenger.zip

Note: The Avenger must be run from a user account with administrator privileges,

and ONLY works on Windows 2000 and XP, and only on 32-bit versions!
If yours is a 64 bit version, do not use it, let me know.

Open a Notepad file by clicking Start > Run and typing Notepad.exe in the box, click OK.

Click Format, and ensure Word Wrap is unchecked.

Copy and Paste all the text inside the box below into Notepad.

Now save the file as RemoveFiles.txt in a location where you can find it.

Files to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\pqtss.bak2
C:\Temp\Procmon.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\nkyvjaqm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\pqtss.bak1
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\sstqp.dll.vir
C:\WINDOWS\NCUNINST.EXE

Start Avenger by double clicking on Avenger.exe.

Check Load script from file:

Click on the folder symbol below and to the right, and browse to RemoveFiles.txt.

Double click it to enter it into Avenger.

Click the green traffic light symbol.

You will be asked if you want to execute the script, answer Yes.

At this point you may get prompts from your protection systems, allow them please.

Avenger will set itself up to run the next time you re-boot, and will prompt you to re-start immediately.

Answer Yes, and allow your computer to re-boot.

Upon re-boot a command window will briefly appear on screen (this is normal).

A Notepad text file will be created C:\avenger.txt.

Copy and Paste it into your next post please, along with a new HJT log.
Note: I won't be able to work on this again until this afternoon (6-7 hours from now).
still have the lsass I/O activity

Did you get any errors from the registry fix?

No, I did not get any error messages from running the registry fix. I got a message box asking if I wanted to add the entries. I clicked Ok and I think it put up a message box saying the entries had been successfully added. Is there a way to list the registry entries to confirm they are correct?
Lets try it this way.

Close all windows and browsers.
Open HijackThis

Click on Open Misc Tools
Click on Delete a File On Reboot
Click once on the file below to select it:
c:\windows\registration\expcab.dll

Click on the Back button to exit Process Manager

Now, back at the main screen of HijackThis, proceed to Scan.
and put a check by these.

O2 - BHO: PsapiAnalyzer Object - {CB8B69CF-31AF-40D0-A119-5A8435BC1534} - c:\windows\registration\expcab.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: expcab - c:\windows\registration\expcab.dll

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
The constant I/O has stopped! Hallelujah!!

Here is the Hijack This log:
