Problem began Monday when my wireless connection disappeared. After trying everything including disabling and reinstalling the drivers…I restored my computer to the day before the problem. I had to do that several times during the week…and each time it was more difficult..i.e "your computer could not be restored to _____ (date).

Now all the restore dates are gone…the antivirus (PC Tools) is inoperable, and when I try to install new antivirus software it disappears after installation.

PLEASE help…I can not work at all…and I only work from home…using this computer…

Presario 2200 running windows XP

THANKS for any help you can offer!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks so MUCH!!! I was able to install Norton and it detected and eliminated w32.beagle.dz….then another spy program detected "bagle worm". Is that the same? I followed the directions and disabled system restore and ran Registry mechanic and fixed all issues.

However, the w32.beagle.dz is still showing up on new scans!

Worse…before I disabled system restore…all my restore points had been deleted and so now i can not restore my system to make the Broadcom 802.11 b/s Lan work anymore. I tried uninstalling the driver, removing the battery and everything else I could find. Now I have no wireless.

Can you help me?

Thanks VERY VERY much! I we can reolve this problem I will definitely donate to the site.

Below is today's Hijack this file:

Beagle and Bagle would refer to the same infection. There is no infection showing here so far, and not quite sure if what you describe is related to infection. For now, let's take a different look at things.

Go Here and download Silent Runners to your desktop. Run it, and post back here the log it creates. If your AV queries the script, allow it to run. It's not malicious. It will create a file named Startup Programs, and will notify when the scan is complete. Copy the log from the Startup Programs file back here.
Thanks!

I can not ad any antivirus program now…so just using anti-spyware…Whatever has infected the computer won't let me run the antivirus sw after its downloaded. The latest scan from Spyware Terminator resulted with "Trojan/Bagle-NOX23 (its curently quarantined)

I also re-installed all drivers from my original disc. But the Norton installation was blocked!

At least got the wireless driver installed….but to no avail…when I went to repair the connection I still get "windows can not conifigure this wireless connection" So restarted the Wireless Zero Configuration Service in services.msc but it also failed because three of the "dependencies" were altered on the same day the problem started 3/15! They are :

ndsip.PNF

ndisuio.PNF

netrndis.PNF

Don't know if that helps…I just want to get rid of this infection and reinstall a working antivirus program and restore my wireless connection.

THANKS AGAIN!!!

No infection showing in this log either just yet. You do need to not install any more antivirus/anti-spyware softwares there until the problems are resolved. These will only complicate your situation.

I would like to suggest you uninstall Spyware Terminator. It is not needed on your system at this point, and due to some of the methods it uses to install it's functions there these may possibly be part of the current problems you are experiencing. You will need to remove the Crawler listing in Add/Remove Programs first, and then uninstall Spyware Terminator. Be sure to reboot after the uninstalls are completed.

Once you have done this Go to Start - Run, type services.msc (and OK).

On the list locate and double-click on the following item.

Wireless Zero Configuration

Under Service Status, click Stop.

Then using the dropdown box, change the Startup type to Disabled.

Apply/OK and exit. Although this service is related to wireless networks, it may not be necessary on your setup and with the problems there may be involved in your wireless issues as well. You can always re-enable it afterwards by reversing the previous steps.

Do these things for now then post back an update please.
Thanks! I did all that AND then I was finally bale to locate an ONLINE Antivirus program (does not need to be downloaded) It gave me the following results and I am now running the program to disinfect the computer ( I will update later): Incident Status Location Virus:w32/bagle.hx.worm Disinfected Operating system Hacktool:rootkit/mhook Not disinfected hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\services\m_hook Spyware:Cookie/Go Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\h\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\tlommdm6.default\cookies-1.txt[.go.com/] Spyware:Cookie/Com.com Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\h\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\tlommdm6.default\cookies-1.txt[.terra.com.br/] Spyware:Cookie/Atwola Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\h\Cookies\h@atwola[1].txt Spyware:Cookie/Go Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\h\Cookies\h@go[2].txt
The HACK TOOL continues to reappear even after being removed by Panda. And I still can not download the Antivirus protection to my system. When I try I receive the error: "The sysytem can not find the file specified……." Info I.D. 2.376.03.2.10094 email [removed] Here is the PANDA Active scan file from this morning: Incident Status Location Hacktool:rootkit/mhook Disinfected HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVICES\M_HOOK Thanks for any help!!!!! My Windows XP disc is damaged so I can not reload XP! Philip
Remind me after repairs to locate my information to give you for contacting Microsoft for a replacement XP CD for your damaged one.

Your efforts did locate a Bagle variant infection, that has loaded a rootkit the scans are having difficulties removing. Let's make repairs on that now. Please do not download or install any more antivirus/anti-spyware software now. Each one you add that does not work is a potential problem both in removing infection and ultimately clearing up your computer.

Download The Avenger from here to your Desktop and unzip it.

Copy all the text contained in the code box below (do not include the word CODE - this only shows the textbox method here) by highlighting it and right clicking and selecting "Copy"

Drivers to unload:
m_hook

Registry keys to delete:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\m_hook

Files to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wintems.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hldrrr.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data\hidires\hidr.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data\hidires\m_hook.sys

Folders to delete:
c:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data\hidires
C:\WINDOWS\exefld

Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop. Look under "Script file to execute" and click on "Input Script Manually". Next click on the Magnifying Glass icon and a blank dialogue box will open called "View/Edit script". Position your mouse inside the box, rightclick and choose Paste. All the text above in the code box should now appear there. Click Done and click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script. Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.

The Avenger will restart your computer. (if the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)

When you have rebooted, a black command window briefly opens on your desktop, this is normal. A logfile will be created that records all actions that The Avenger performed. This log file is saved to C:\avenger.txt. The deleted files will be backed up and saved to C:\avenger\backup.zip.

=================================================

Once your computer has rebooted, Download ComboFix.exe from here to your desktop, and click the downloaded file to run the repair.

When the command window opens, select 1 (and Enter). Allow the scan to run. When completed a text window will appear - please copy/paste the contents back here. This log can also be found at C:\ComboFix.txt.

A caution - do not touch your mouse/keyboard until the scan has completed. The scan will temporarily disable your desktop, and if interrupted may leave your desktop disabled. If this occurs, please reboot to restore the desktop.

——————————————–

Next download to your desktop http://www.malekal.com/download/clean.zip, and right click to allow it to create it's own "clean" folder. In that folder click on clean.cmd. When the command window (black screen) opens select option 1 (and Enter). Allow the scan to complete, press any key and post the contents of the text popup back here please.

——————————————

And go to Start - Run, type cmd (and Enter). At the prompt copy/paste the following (Enter after):

reg query HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal >SB.txt & Start Notepad SB.txt

A textbox will appear - please copy/paste those contents back here, along with the combofix.txt log, the"clean" log and the avenger.txt log.
OK!

Something interfered with the first round so I deleted a program and ran everything a second time:

THANKS!!!! Philip
So far the repair process looks good, and it appears some of the scans done there already had removed some active infection. You haven't posted recently on the status of your wireless connection - did any of the earlier steps correct the problem?

Best if you do a thorough scan in Safe Mode at this time. The ComboFix log shows that the rootkit infection also corrupted the means there for entering Safe Mode, so let's repair that and complete a scan.

As you are about to make registry changes, you will need to backup the registry to have if needed. Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup (not to a temp folder). Close the Registry Editor.

Then go here, scroll down and download SafeBoot.zip to your desktop. Unzip the file to it's own folder, then open the folder to locate SafeBoot.reg. Right click SafeBoot.reg, select Merge, and allow the file to "add information" to the registry. Reboot after.

—————————————————————————

Once the computer has completely rebooted download the trial version of AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 from here and install it.

If you have an exisiting copy of Ewido (which this software replaces), agree to the uninstall notification and uninstall Ewido. Reboot after. Then click the AVG download file again to install the software. (If you have a paid version of Ewido installed, go here to follow the steps to upgrade that now.)

After installation, double-click the icon on your Desktop to launch AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5.

On the top of the main screen click Shield. Then click the word active to change it to inactive.

You will need to also update AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 to the latest definition files. On the top of the main screen click Update. Then click on Start Update. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

Now close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 (don't scan just yet).

================================================

Reboot into Safe Mode (at startup tap the F8 key and select Safe Mode).

Make sure all windows are closed and run AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5. Click Scanner, then click on the Scan tab. Click Complete System Scan to begin scanning. When the scan is complete click Recommended Action and change it to Quarantine. Then click Apply all actions.

Once the scan has finished, click the Save report button, then click Save Report As. This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.

————————————————

Reboot to normal mode, and run a new HijackThis and Silent Runners scan, and post those back here along with the AVG log please.

Sorry…had to post my Hijack log in earlier post because i was having trouble posting it.

I WAS able to restore Safe Mode! So ran AVG as well as Norton Security Scan

They were both clean…NO infections!

As for my wireless. The Wireless Zero Configuration service still won't start because the "dependencies" listed as :

NDIS Usermode I/O Protocol

ndsip.PNF
netrndis.PNF
ndisuio.PNF
(all of these were modified the day my problem began!!!)

AND

Remote Procedure Protocol (RPC) which appears to be working

It looks like we have gotten rid of the hack tools…I hope!

Now if I can just restore my system to a working condition so that I can run the wireless and install an Antivirus program.

Thanks Again!!!

UPDATE!!! I am now able to run Panda Antivirus + Firewall!!!! So that is huge progress! Now…just to repair the wireless connection! Thanks again for ALL of you GREAT help!!! Philip
The logs and no infection found in Safe Mode scans indicate infection is removed at this point. As you have aded yet another protective software let's take a new look (after the Panda installation) to see what items can be cleared out now.

You mention issues with that wireless service not starting, and list come configuration files. One you list as ndsip.PNF, however, the known similar named file is NdisIP.PNF (notice the extra "i"). Is the file you have shown there ndsip.PNF?

Go to Start - Run, type eventvwr.msc (and Enter). Click on the System icon to expand the list in the right column. Look through that list for Errors posted at the same time you get your wireless failure issues. Copy/paste back here any items of significance you see.

You can post what you find back here by double-clicking on each Error/Warning in the log. In the upper corner of that display is an icon (a sorta double file icon) you can click to copy the information to your clipboard, then open a Notepad text and Paste the information, and repeat that to develop a log to post back here for review.

Also post back a new HijackThis and Silent Runners scan please.
