Hi,
My computer at work (Dell Dimension 5150) seems to be getting slower and slower particularly on startup. It has always been a little slow on the network but now it seems to be all the time. I have removed all uneccessary programs, have run InControl to minimize startup programs. I have just now finished running CCleaner, ATF Cleaner, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, and AVG Anti-Spyware (in Safe Mode). Our anti-virus applications are avast! and AntiVir.
Here is my htj logfile:
So, do I have any problems or just a slow computer? Thank you for any help anyone can provide.

Hello,

Our anti-virus applications are avast! and AntiVir.

And that's your problem.

Never install more than one Antivirus and Firewall! Rather than giving you extra protection, it will decrease the reliability of it seriously!
The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time.
Also because more than one Antivirus and Firewall installed are not compatible with eachother, it can cause system performance problems and a serious system slowdown.

That's why I recommend you uninstall Avast or Avira. If I had to choose here, I would keep Avira since it's better in detection than Avast and doesn't need that much resources as Avast does - but that's my personal opinion :)

Extra note... Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
    • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.
By the way, also take a look here concerning slow computers:
