My normal browser is Opera 9.10 but due to display problems on "ukie.accuwather.com" (my fault caused by url filter) last night I was using FF 2.0. After opening the Accuweather site, I think I got a popup from drivecleaner, tried to close then another opened. Closed FF then on reopening FF after a short time ukie.accuweather changed to drivecleanerI ran thorugh scan with "Windows defender" boot time scan with Avasti. Nothing! HiKack this did not show anything unusual. I then put a block on www.drivcleaner.com with Avasti web shield.. Tried once more but again after a short time, the accuwather site was replaced by a warning page from Avsti web shiled. Googled around a bit and then put an entry in the Hosts file 0.0.0.0 www.drivecleaner.com. This has made FF usable once more.

All the time Opera was able to visit ukie.accuwather without a problem.

I've solved the problem, but it's not a fix that satisfies me.

Any chance that "Google Talk" or "Google Desktop" with a few widgets could have some role to play in this. I installed "Google Desktop" yestrday. Any method for listin the Google widgets I have on Google Desktop? I have Google Gadgets Analog clock, multifunction clock GDS gadget, Google Desktop weather gadget,
Google desktop Email gadget, Google Desktop Scratchpad gadget, Google Calendar Gadget V2.0, Desktop Netstop (Menu "About" Option greyed out), Google Desktop System Monitor Gadget, and thats it.

Came back to edit, Seems like it is too late for me to edit and just found today what I could not find last night.

It's an 'exploit' in the Adbrite ads. Apparently it's been happening for a few months now and Adbrite/AVNads have been turning a blind eye.

from Adbrite support Hello,
We apologize for the ongoing perpetuation of unauthorized advertisements, such as drivecleaner.com, systemdoctor.com, or errorsafe.com in our network. These ads are not permitted in our network, and generally only appear through flash redirects targeted to only appear to users in specific geographic regions, making them difficult to locate.

So from all of that it looks like I'm not infected and this code rides on on some ads. Bad news all the same.
