My main computer (networked) will not connect to the internet.
Tried various methods to solve this wonder if my computer has spyware.

I am using windows Xp. I am connected to a router by lan and have two other computers with wireless connections that are working fine, so I have ruled out the broadband connection.

Hello and Welcome to the Forum.

Please delete any HijackThis Folders and Files you have now.Use Add/Remove Programs and remove HijackThis. What you have now is a Beta Version and isn't ready to use.

You can get a complete installer that installs HijackThis to C:\Program Files\HijackThis, making an entry in the start menu and also providing a desktop shortcut from http://downloads.mal...om/HJTsetup.exe.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Open the HijackThis Folder. Find the file HijackThis.exe, Right Click on the file and Select Rename. Rename Hijackthis.exe to Spyware.exe.

Post a new HijackThis Log.

I'm not seeing anything that would cause the internet not to work.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Delete this File if listed:
C:\ALCMTR.EXE


Next:
Click Start> Run> type in CMD tap enter key
Copy/Paste: ipconfig /flushdns <-- Note the space between g /f. It needs to be there.


Now lets check some settings on your system.
Enter your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections

Then right click on your Default Connection
Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL
Left click on Properties
Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item
Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two


Reboot and "copy/paste" the text file (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Computer reboots slowly LAN status Limited or no connectivity
When I try to enter the Router configuration screen
with 192.168.11.1 it is not possible from networked computer but works on the other wireless networked computers.

Can we presume that you did follow LDTate's recommendation as quoted below?

Next:
Click Start> Run> type in CMD tap enter key
Copy/Paste: ipconfig /flushdns <-- Note the space between g /f. It needs to be there.


Now lets check some settings on your system.
Enter your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections

Then right click on your Default Connection
Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL
Left click on Properties
Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item
Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks

A couple of Questions:
1.
In Control Panel - Network Connections, what is listed for your LAN "Status"?
Could be:
Connected
Disconnected
Limited or no Internet connection

Which one is it?

What have you tried so far?

Here's a couple more "safe" things you can do with Windows automated network configuration tools:

1. In Control Panel - Network Connections - Double-click on your LAN
Select the - Support(tab) - Click on Repair

Next:

2. Do both of the following in sequence:
Start - Run - (type)ipconfig /releaseall
Start - Run - (type)ipconfig /renew

3.
Power down your Router
A. Turn off your Computer
B. Disconnect power from Router (and leave it off for 3 minutes)
C. Turn off your DSLModem (and leave it off for 3 minutes)

D. Turn your DSL Modem back on. (and wait for all of the familiar lights to come on)
E. Reconnect Power to your Router (and wait for all of the familiar lights to come on)
F. Turn your Computer back on and attempt to connect to a Website

3. If the above didn't resolve your problem, give us a screenshot of your IPconfig information
Start- Run - (type)cmd - Enter
(type at the DOS Prompt)ipconfig /all

Take a screenshot of that ipconfig information that appears in the DOS window of C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe

Use "alt" key, plus "Prt Screen" key to capture only the DOS window.
