Hello red-apple and Welcome to TomCoyote,

Please do the following:

STEP 1.
======
SDFix

Also download SDFix.zip
and save it to the Desktop.

Right click the SDFix.zip folder
Select: Extract All to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop.

====
Start the computer in Safe Mode :
-When the machine first starts again, tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
-Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
-Press Enter to boot into Safe Mode.

====
Open the SDFix folder on the Desktop, and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
The process removes any Trojan Services or Registry Entries found, and then prompts you to press any key to Reboot.

Press any key to restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the SDFix will run again and complete the removal process
It then displays Finished
Press any key to end the script and load the Desktop icons.

Once the Desktop icons load, the SDFix report opens on screen and saves itself in the SDFix folder as Report.txt.

Please post (reply) with the Report.txt and another hijackthis log.
Hi Red Apple,

I am sorry about the problem.

STEP 1.
======
SDFix

I have changed the link so please try this and let me know if the problem has cleared up.

Download SDFix.exe
and save it to the Desktop.

====
Start the computer in Safe Mode :
-When the machine first starts again, tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
-Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
-Press Enter to boot into Safe Mode.

====

I'm not sure if this is only happened to me, but when I downloaded the SDFix.exe. It downloads onto my desktop and then righ after it downloaded it. It would just diappear, and when I download it in Firefox and open it right after it finsih downloading. It would say that the program was either deleted, etc. :wacko: I'm really not sure what is wrong…
Please do not be too concerned. There are other ways to approach this. But first Andy Manchesta, the author of the SDFix, would like a couple files for analysis please.

Please do the following:

Next, please enable viewing of hidden files as follows:
1) Go to My Computer, and click on the "Tools" menu
2) Click "Folder options"
3) Select the "View" tab
4) Make sure "Show hidden files and folders" is selected
5) Make sure "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked
6) Make sure "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" is unchecked

http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/index.php?PH…f&board=1.0

Please go to the link above and scroll down so that you see the board with the headings -subjects, started by, replies, etc. You will see a tab “New Topic” at the right. Please click the “New Topic” tab.

Then scroll down. Please enter your name and email address.
Copy and paste “for Andy Manchesta” the Subject line.

Copy and paste the following link into the box.
http://forums.tomcoyote.org/Ssmsexe_t78922…t=0#entry371610

You will see the “Attach” below and click the “Browse” button and navigate to the following file on your computer:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssms.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svhost.exe
<=please be careful spelling this one since similar good one exists.

Then please Click “Post”.

Please let me know if you were able to do this.
Thanks Red-apple, Let's proceed while waiting for analysis from them.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ZTgServerSwitch] c:\program files\support.com\client\lserver\server.vbs <=this is privacy issue with Sony- we are not deleting file but keeping it from running at start-up
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Drivers] ssms.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows Drivers] ssms.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [winstart] C:\WINDOWS\system32\svhost.exe

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssms.exe<=file
ssms.exe<=file (you may have to do a search to locate this one!)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svhost.exe<=file

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

Please perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at
http://www.kaspersky.com/service?chapter=161739400

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
  • The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      Extended
    • Scan Options:
      Scan Archives
      Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK & have it scan My Computer
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply
**Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.

Please post(reply) with the log from Kapersky and a fresh hijackthis log.

Hi red-apple, still a few files we need to delete but it is looking better!

Please do not download Cracked applications because you will become infected.
Go to the Control Panel =>Add/Remove and uninstall the Alcohol.120.v1.9.6.4719.Retail if it exists.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:
C:\Documents and Settings\Sora\Desktop\Alcohol.120.v1.9.6.4719.Retail.WinALL.Cracked-BETAMASTER\<=folder
C:\svhost.exe<=file (be sure to spell it exactly like it is)

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

Note: We will take care of the infected _restore files later!

R1 SCDEmu - c:\windows\system32\drivers\scdemu.sys
Hi red-apple,

Just want to check a few things. I could not find much information about the acx.dll.

======
Please show all files for your system.
You will need to reverse this process when all steps are done.

Submit File to Jotti
Please click on Jotti
Use the "Browse" button and locate the following file on your computer:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\acx.dll

Click the "Submit" button.
Please copy and post (reply) with the results

If Jotti's service load is too high, you can use the following scanner instead:
http://www.virustotal.com/xhtml/index_en.html

Please also check the properties of those files (right-click and select properties from the popupmenu). Look if you can find some company information, etc.

======
Deckard’s System Scanner shows the Windows firewall enabled but I see the Zone Alarm entries in your hijackthis log. I am not sure which is correct.

Start =>Run and type firewall.cpl in the box and click Okay.

Now turn off the Windows firewall if it is on.
Please test your firewall and make sure it is working properly.
Test Firewall
Can you tell if Zone Alarm is working?

Let me know about the acx.dll.

Good work red-apple!

Your logs appear to be clean! Glad your firewall test detected the ports secure. You got Zone Alarm working again I hope.

Please do the following. STEP 2 will clear out those infected _restore files.

STEP 1.
Reset hidden/system files and folders
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Deselect the Show hidden files and folders option.
  • Select the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Select the Hide protected operating system files option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
STEP 2.
System Restore for Windows XP
Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)
  • Turn off System Restore.
  • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check Turn off System Restore.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
Reboot.

Turn ON System Restore.
  • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.

STEP 3.
======
DON’T BECOME OVERCONFIDENT WITH ANTIVIRUS APPLICATIONS INSTALLED!!!

http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic….39eba6ea0b5e8ee

Stay up to date on security patches and be extremely wary of clicking on links and attachments that arrive unbidden in instant messages and e-mail.

"The number one thing the majority of the malicious code we're seeing now does is disable or delete anti-virus and other security software," Dunham said. "In a lot of cases, once the user clicks on that attachment, it's already too late."

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Visit Microsoft's Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit Windows Updates regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.
    A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
    Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.
    A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
    Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

  • More info on how to prevent malware you can also find here (By Tony Klein)
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Thank you for allowing me to assist you.

Susan
