Thanks in advance. This computer had major malware and I think some may remain.

Have run Spybot twice. AdAware twice. Installed, updated and ran Norton Internet Security - two antivirus scans. Ran Ewido. Removed about 300 pieces of malware major and minor. System restore disabled.

HijackThis! log below. Really appreciate any help.

Hi, ixtaland welcome to Tom Coyote forums

I am currently looking over your log. As I am an Undergraduate, everything that I post to you must be checked by an Admin or Moderator. Thus, there may be a tiny bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long. I will post back shortly with a potential fix.

Thanks for your patience!
dan
Hi ixtal. Welcome to TomCoyote forums. edit: dan12 beat me to it! *Must learn to type faster!*
Hi ixtal

Have run Spybot twice. AdAware twice. Installed, updated and ran Norton Internet Security - two antivirus scans. Ran Ewido. Removed about 300 pieces of malware major and minor. System restore disabled.

Your opening staement concerns me somewhat, Its far better to have a bad restore point than no restore point at all.
You don't clarify whether or not system restore has been turned back on? (I certainly hope so!)enable it immediately if not sooner.
Whilst I'm assisting you with your Issues you should run nothing on your own, nor should you attempt fixes on your own.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log
_____________

I believe we have some files hiding from us, I'm going to flush them out.

Please go to the C:\Jims programs\Hijackthis\HijackThis.exe
. Right click on the HijackThis.exe file and select "Rename". Rename it removal.exe,

Then run HijackThis again and post a new log please.

Thanks dan
Dan Thanks again! I may have screwed up my "fast reply" - sorry if double post shows up!

I followed your advice - logs below:

AVG Anti-Spyware report
Thanks dan
Hello Dan, Again many thanks for all your help. I followed your instructions to the letter:

Let me know when I can uninstall AVG as I have Norton Internet Security and I don't think I should have both - incidentally
Norton AV and McAfee don't install completely without a special uninstall program - do you know if this is true for AVG also??

1. When I ran Vundo, it didn't mention mljjgec in the report so I ran it again with just mljjgec in the "add files" and that is in
the second report - I'm posting both in order.

2. Avg ran but when I clicked on "reports" icon at top - showed no report - I think one should click on the "save report" in the
lower left hand of the screen and then on reports:

Here is what it put in quarantine:
C:\nzch.exe trojan.small
C:\program files\ofb1.dll trojan.owlf.a
C:\program files\ofb11.dll trojan.owlf.a
C\windows\fpnmiwpv.exe downloader.small.bve

Hi, ixtal,

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a logfile located at C:\ComboFix.txt.
4. Post the contents of that log in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Please include new HJT log plus combofix report
in your next post
Thanks dan
Hi Dan,

Before I read your last post I ran AVG again - report enclosed.

Hi,ixtal

Just to clarify for your Information what I had you download was AVG Anti-Spyware, not AVG Antivirus; therefore, there should be no conflict between it and your current resident antivirus as AVG-AS is not an antivirus program. Also, it does no good to run AVG-AS if one does not let it remove/quarantine the malware it finds. It appears from the report you posted that you did not allow it to remove a thing.

Make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

[external image: Posted Image]

5. Click on the Save list… button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.

Thanks dan
Good morning Dan and again thanks for all your time and good work. I admit I'm not on the top line (fighting the flu) but the first time avg ran I definitely put the spyware in quarantine as that's where I saw the lines I quoted in a previous post; in the second run the only spyware it found looks like it is in system restore. Here is the HJT info you requested. Again thanks - you all are the best!!
