KARLS :D

Welcome to Tom Coyote

Go to the Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall Comet Cursor, let me know if it was removed

This is your main problem
Your computer has been hijacked by the lovely people in the Ukraine, :rant2: you are infected with Wareout.

85.255.112.0 - 85.255.127.255
Inhoster hosting company
OOO Inhoster, Poltavskij Shliax 24, Kharkiv, 61000, Ukraine

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
FixWareout Subratam
FixWareout Lonny
  • Save it to your desktop and click on it to run it.
  • Click Next, then Install,
  • Then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
  • The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
  • You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
  • Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
  • At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.
Save the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt and post it into your next reply.

Now lets check some settings on your system. For (2000/XP) Only)
  • Go to Start > control panel.
  • If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections.
  • Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl.
  • Left click on properties.
  • Click the Networking tab.
  • Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
  • Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be available on some systems

  • Next Go start> Run type cmd and hit OK
  • Type in ipconfig /flushdns then hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)
  • Type exit hit enter

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

Wareout <– It looks like its gone

As far as Comet Curser, its malware, lets look for it.

You need to enable windows to show all files and folders, instructions Here

Look in C:\Program Files\Comet Curser and if its present , delete it.

The rest of your log looks fine  How is your system behaving now??
Thanks for your help  . I'll have a go at finding comet cursor shortly. My system is already behaving a lot better :D , When i put something in the search engine to find & it brings up the links i click on one & it opens first time everytime where as in the past it was taking me to other sites where i didn't need to be. However the one website that i wan't to be on still comes up with cannot find server but works 1st time when i use a different PC at work to this one i'm on at home  Karl
Glad things are well, what website won't load?

An option you should do is upgrade to Internet Explorer 7, its much more secure than IE6. Open IE and go to Tools> Windows Updates and download all the latest updates and also includes IE7.

Try using the Firefox browser and see if you can still get into that site. It will in no way interfere with IE, you can use them both. I have been using Firefox for about 3 years and only use IE when I absolutely have to.
FireFox

Try this

Close any instance of Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.
  • Go to Start> Control Panel> Internet Options . You shoud be on the General Tab
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Files > and offline content as well
  • Then go to the Programs Tab and Reset Web Settings
Let me know if it helped
Open IE and go to Tools> Internet Options > Security and click on Restricted Sites and if its listed , remove it. Let me know how you do?
Don't know why Karl, sorry. If you can access the internet and load all web pages except that one, its strange. The other possibility is that the site may be down. Why don't you post a new HJT log and let me go thru it once more.
Here's a new HJT Logfile as requested.

If that 017 entry reappearded, lets run the fix for wareout again, it may not have run correctly.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
FixWareout Subratam
FixWareout Lonny
  • Save it to your desktop and run it.

Then check HJT and remove that 017 if it reappears and post the log from Fixwareout and a New HJT log
