Dear Susan,
Thanks for making the extra effort to delete the email addresses.
Also, could you tell me if there is any security risk in showing file extensions and hidden and system folders? I generally like to see this information, as at one time I was a programmer and I like to see all that I can. I know enough not to do any harm with these, but can malware?
I have thought I was staying on top of updates and avoiding potential infections, but I see I need to be even more vigilant.
Again, thank you.
Vince
I have my files where I can see them and also the file extensions. I have photographs and I like to see the extensions to know what format they are in like tiff, jpg, etc. I think the main thing was to hide system files so that inexperienced persons would be less likely to mess them up if they did not see them. It is like that saying "Out of sight, out of mind!".
Dear Susan,
I found this morning a great deal of hard disk activity and inability to get focus when the computer came up from hibernation. This might have lasted as long as five minutes (probably 3 minutes). I disabled the internet connection and stopped google desktop. It made no difference. I brought up the task manager but couldn't see anything using lots of CPU. Do you have any suggestions for tools that would give an insight into what it happening?
Thanks,
Vince
Dear Susan,
I'm not sure what you mean by "noise." What I observed was constant accessing of the hard disk and unresponsiveness to my clicking on icons to launch programs or even to change tabs within my browser.
This behavior did not occur on more recent reawakening of the computer. I'd hoped you might suggest some tools that could help me identify the cause or source of the hard-disk thrashing when it does occur. If you don't have ready answers, don't go out of your way. I appreciate all that you have done.
Thanks,
Vince
Hi Vince,
Do you think the issue has been resolved? Have you seen any more "constant accessing of the hard disk and unresponsiveness to my clicking on icons"?
