Cid Pop Up Ie & Boldth~1.exe Issue ?

Hi

I have a friends Toshiba Laptop and she has got it in quite a mess, I've ran Adaware and spybot, which removed some stuff!
I also installed, ran, removed spyware and have now unistalled XoftspySE and Spy Doctor!

I still keep getting an extra advertising popup when opening IE, with CiD: in the title bar!

Also when shutting down I get a alert advising that "BOLDTH~1.EXE dll initialisation failed"

Please can some kind person take a look at the log and let me know what I need to remove.

Hi Guys

After more hunting around on the web, I've managed to sort it!

I basically followed instructions from here - http://forums.spywareinfo.com/lofiversion/…php/t31600.html

Removed the BOLD THUNK thing and cleared the temp files etc.

All seems to be fixed!

Looks like a Lop infection.

Please Download NoLop! to your desktop.

* First close any other programs you have running as this will require a reboot
* Double click NoLop.exe to run it
* Carefully type this CLSID (clsid from bho) into the lower text area.
* Then click the button labelled "Search and Destroy" <>
* When scanning is finished you will be prompted to reboot only if infected, Click OK
* Now click the "REBOOT" Button.
* A Message should popup from NoLop if not, double click the program again and it will finish
* Please Post the contents of C:\NoLop.log along with a fresh HijackThis log

Many thanks for all this help !!!

After uninstalling the Logitech program, the two Logitech 04's didn't show on the HijackThis list, so couldn't tick and fix them.
Also I had to go into Safe Mode to delete the Startintra.exe, as it said it was in use.

The system seems to be running nicely now, I've shutdown and restarted a few times and the deleted files haven't returned! :-)
Before doing any of this last batch of fixes, everytime we shutdown, we got a DLL error message alert flashing up, but none of that now!

Only one left to fix:

Run HJT and fix this one:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE


Delete this file:
ALCMTR.EXE


You can remove any programs I had you install. Use Add/Remove Programs to remove if listed there:

Log looks good :D


You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.



If you dont have any programs like these, I would recommend that you get them.

Only run one Anti-Virus and Firewall program.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Do not use Ad-aware if you have McAfee's VirusScan and AntiSpyware

Do you know where I'll find the ALCMTR.EXE file to delete please? I've done a search and found it in 3 locations - c:\windows c:\programm files\Realtek\Installshield c:\TOOLSCD\Sound Driver\wdm
