Oh yea, one additional question, will I need to leave the Windows Xp Firewall disabled once I have gotten the firewall from Kaspersky? Thanks
I've installed Kaspersky's Internet Security sucessfully and did your above steps. I have one problem though, I can't seem to "apply" changes whenever I access my router. I can get into the router just fine, but when I press a button to apply changes, it suddenly asks me for my password again and I enter it, but it doesn't work. I tried using the other computers on the network to apply changes and they seemed to work fine. I've also tried using Firefox instead of IE to access the page and apply changes, but it has the same result. Do you have any idea what it could be? Mine is a Linksys router. Unfortunately, I didn't test applying changes in my router prior to installing the software and doing all your steps. I think it's either Kaspersky, the Java updates, the changed Internet options or the spyware blaster that could have messed it up. Or possibly I still have a remenant of the virus? Thanks Susan
I am sorry but I do not know much about routers. I would guess the problem would be with the Linksys and Kapersky–not the Java updates or
Spywareblaster.

If you disable Kapersky Internet Security can you change the settings?

You may want to post (reply) the other computer problems.
http://forums.tomcoyote.org/Other_Computer_Problems_f83.html

I used to use a Linksys router to connect to a Westell modem for networking and I would call the Linksys site for troubleshooting. It was free call of course. But they also have link where you and post question.

http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c…d=7788177851H11
Yea, once I disabled Kaspersky, it worked fine. Good call. I guess I'll post in that forum for help. Thanks for all your help Susan!!
Oh yea, one additional thing, I did the Browser Security Test (http://www.jasons-toolbox.com/BrowserSecurity/) and I failed the "Copy from Clipboard" test. Howver, I have that option disabled. I also tried disabling java in the Internet Options but I still failed the test which baffled me. I think it's because of my Microsoft Java VM? My computer is upgraded from Win 98 so unfortunately I still have the Microsoft Java VM. Also strange is that JRE 1.6 doesn't display in my advanced options in IE but when I visit some java test pages, it says I'm using JRE 1.6. Any ideas? Again, sorry for all the additional questions. Thanks Susan.
I would like to study the Java entries.

Can you run hijackthis again and post (reply) with the log and also do the following:

I also forgot to mention that I tried to uninstall Java 1.4.2 and it said it was uninstalled sucessfully but it never was removed from the list. I also deleted the file folder where Java 1.4.2 was installed so it's strange it wasn't removed. Also, I'm having a bug with Microsoft updates, I installed one of their security updates and it said it installed sucessfully but when I checked for updates another time, it still was there and said the update was downloaded already and that I just needed to install it. I've tried multiple times with reboots, etc but it didn't work Also, in the past, when I visit certain webpages, the Microsoft Office installer suddenly pops up asking to install when I already have it installed. The Microsoft Office bug happened before I had the virus. Perhaps a windows installer bug for these things? Thanks again Susan.
Hi JCInfected,

I would like to see more information please.

If you do not still have Deckard’s System Scanner on your desktop ,download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.

  • Go to start =>run => copy the following bold text into the box and click OK
    ”%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe” /config
A pop-up box will appear, please check the Check ALL box at the bottom and then Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt to your post. in your reply

=================
Please download Deckard's Association File Tool (DAFT) and save it to your desktop:
  • Double-click the daft.exe icon. Read the disclaimer and click OK.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • If it finds faulty file associations, they will appear in red beside a checkbox. If this occurs, just place a tick in the boxes in question.
  • Click the Fix button.
  • Re-scan and save a logfile. By default, it will save as daft.txt.
Post (reply) the contents of that logfile with your next post.
The initial scan found 2 items to fix. I fixed them and the 2nd scan log said everything was fine. Unfortunately, I didn't save the first scan log but it was something along the lines of this: winsock open .vbs winsock edit .vbs I'm still unable to disable my network connection after those steps. Perhaps it's a feature of Kaspersky's Internet Security? I disabled all protection services though and it still would not let me disable my network connection. Thanks Susan
Hi JCInfected, After your last post fixing the file associations, I would like to view the logs. If you do not still have Deckard’s System Scanner on your desktop ,download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges. 1. Close all applications and windows. 2. Go to start =>run => copy the following bold text into the box and click OK ”%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe” /config A pop-up box will appear, please check the Check ALL box at the bottom and then Scan. 3. When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized 4. Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt to your post. in your reply I will also consult with some others.
