Hello and welcome to TomCoyote! My name is silver and I'm currently looking over your log. Please hold on while I research a fix for you.
Hi Jasonkid,

Your log doesn't look too bad, do you have any suspicions as to what has caused the slowdown?

First, we need to remove a couple of unsafe programs:

Please open Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs, look down the list for these items and remove them:
Bodog Poker
UltimateBet

We will now temporarily disable Windows Defender as it may interfere with the cleaning we will be doing:

Temporarily disable Windows Defender:
  • Right-click on the Windows Defender icon in the system tray [it's the one with the red and yellow bulls-eye]
  • Click on Security Agents Status
  • Click on Disable real-time protection.
  • Next right-click on the Windows Defender icon in the system tray again to open the program
  • Click on the Options menu and choose Settings
  • In the left pane column click on Real Time Protection
  • Under Startup Options, uncheck Enable Security Agents on startup (recommended)
  • Under Real-time spyware threat protection, uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended)
  • Click the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware
  • Finally, right-click on the Windows Defender icon in the system tray and select Shutdown Windows Defender
Then, open HijackThis, choose Do a system scan only and place a checkmark next to the following lines (if present):
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O9 - Extra button: UltimateBet - {94148DB5-B42D-4915-95DA-2CBB4F7095BF} - C:\Program Files\UltimateBet\UltimateBet.exe
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: UltimateBet - {94148DB5-B42D-4915-95DA-2CBB4F7095BF} - C:\Program Files\UltimateBet\UltimateBet.exe
O9 - Extra button: Bodog Poker - {F47C1DB5-ED21-4dc1-853E-D1495792D4C5} - C:\Program Files\Bodog Poker\BPGame.exe
O16 - DPF: {A609CB6E-FEB5-47C3-966C-1B916842BD01} -

Do you know if you or the person who looks after your computer has placed restrictions on changes to Internet Explorer settings? These could be put in place by protection software like Spybot S&D. If you think there is no reason for these restrictions or wish to remove them then also place a checkmark next to these lines:
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

Then close all open windows apart from HijackThis, press Fix checked, OK the prompt and close HijackThis.

Next please perform a couple of scans:
Open Kaspersky Online Scanner in Internet Explorer

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky,
Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT and then Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • The program will start to scan your system.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on the Save as Text button and save the file to your desktop
Then please download F-Secure Blacklight (blbeta.exe):
https://europe.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml
  • Click I ACCEPT and download the graphical user interface version to your Desktop
  • Double click the file to run it, choose I accept the agreement then press Scan
  • It will create the "fsbl-xxxxxxx.log" on your desktop.
  • The log will have a list of all items found.
  • Do not choose to rename any yet! I want to see the log first because legitimate items can also be present.
  • Exit Blacklight and post the contents of the log in your next reply.
Once complete, please post the Kaspersky log, the Blacklight log and a new HijackThis log; also let me know if you have any suspected reasons for the slowdown.
Thanks for your help. I removed what use asked me to and had no problems. However the when I try do install the active control for Kaspersky Online Scanner I am brought to another screen which talks about using the program and nothing is ever installed or scanned. This is what the screen says: Welcome to the Kaspersky Online Scanner! Use it to scan your PC for viruses and other malware for free Warning: if you have installed Kaspersky Online Scanner BETA, please manually uninstall it using "Add/Remove Programs" before installing this version! Otherwise this version will not function correctly. Benefits: Kaspersky Anti-Virus exceptional detection rates and thorough scanning Hourly AV database updates available each time the Online Scanner is launched Heuristic analysis to detect unknown viruses Simple installation (just click on a link) Requirements and limitations: When using this service for the first time, you have to run with Administrator privileges in order to install the product. Also, you will need to download and install files about 400 KB in size (about 1 minute on a 57.6 kbps connection) followed by 7 MB of virus definitions. However, if you use the Online Scanner again, you will only need to download the files that have been updated since your last scan. The Online Scanner service offered by Kaspersky Lab uses Microsoft ActiveX technology. Microsoft ActiveX Technology and the Kaspersky Online Scanner work only with MS Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher. We cannot guarantee that the Online Scanner will function correctly if you are using any other browser or any Internet Explorer extensions (such as AvantBrowser). If you use a different browser, you can use the Kaspersky File Scanner to scan individual files. The free Kaspersky Online Scanner does not scan RAM, boot sectors and MBRs, so it cannot detect malicious code located in these areas. Please note: The free Kaspersky Online Scanner does not protect against malicious code, and cannot prevent future infections. It only detects malware that has already penetrated your computer. We strongly recommend that you install a full antivirus solution to protect your system. Privacy statement: The Kaspersky Online Scanner will collect information about the malicious programs found on your computer during the scanning process. The information will be sent to the Kaspersky Virus Lab for statistical purposes. No personal information about you or specific information about your system will be collected or transmitted to Kaspersky Lab. There are no options after this is said. Also one of the problems I have been having is when I restart my computer my internet connection does not always work unless I renew my ip add. and browsing seems slower. If you can help I would greatly appreciate it however it may be difficult since I may not be giving you all the info you need.
Hi Jasonkid,

I'm not sure whether the network problem you are experiencing is related to malware yet, but if it is we'll get to the bottom of it.

Don't worry about Kaspersky, here are instructions for using a different online scanner - Panda Activescan - if for some reason you have problems using this, then please follow the instructions for Dr Web further down. Please remember to complete the Blacklight scan also :)

Please run an online scan with Panda Activescan:
Open this page in Internet Explorer:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm

Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button.
A new window will open…click the Check Now button.
Enter your Country, State/Province, enter an e-mail address and click Send.
Select either Home User or Company.
Click the big Scan Now button.
If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it.
It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan.
When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the ActiveScan report.

If the Panda Activescan doesn't work, then please use Dr Web:

Download Dr.WEB CureIt to your desktop from here:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/cureit.exe
  • Double-click cureit.exe to start the program.
  • Press Start and then OK to start the Express scan
  • The Express scan takes just a few moments to finish, if something is found, click Yes to cure it
  • Once the short scan has finished, Click Options->Change settings
  • Choose the Scan tab and remove the check mark from Heuristic analysis and press OK
  • Then select all hard drives to be scanned by clicking on them - choose all drives - a red dot confirms they will be scanned
  • Then click the green arrow on the right to start the scan
  • Click Yes to all if it asks if you want to cure/move a file
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:
    [external image: Posted Image]
If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
    [external image: Posted Image]
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantine-folder if it can't be cured.
  • Then click File-> Save report list and save the report to your desktop
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit and reboot your computer (this is important as files may be moved/deleted during reboot)
Once complete, please continue with the instructions from my previous post, you should then post the scan log from whichever service you were able to use, the Blacklight log and a new HijackThis log.
I used pandasoftware and came up with this>

Incident Status Location
Adware:adware/statblaster Not disinfected Windows Registry

I then used Blacklight and nothing showed up so there was no log.

This is the new hi-jack log

By the way I did not remove UltimateBet and Bodog because these are programs I use to play poker on-line. However I removed the the extra tools and buttons asociated with them. Again thanks for your help.
Hi Jasonkid,

Please download this Statblaster removal tool from Symantec to your desktop:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FXStBlst.exe

Double-click FXStBlst.exe to open the program, press Start to begin scanning and follow the on-screen instructions to remove Statblaster.

I understand your reluctance to remove the poker programs, however you should be aware that experts have examined these programs and they are considered to be either malware installers or otherwise unsafe and unwanted. Therefore these programs are a security risk on your machine - if you are playing for real money then that should be of great concern, if you are playing for fun then why not choose a safe program?
Of course, it's down to you what you run on your machine, but I hope you take this information into consideration.

It looks like you have updated to the latest version of Java, however it is important to remove the older versions as they can still be exploited by malicious software:
Go to Start » Control Panel » Add/Remove Programs
Search for all old versions of Java - don't remove the current version 1.6.0_01
Find the old entries and click on the Change/Remove button and follow the instructions to remove Java.

If for any reason you need to reinstall the latest version, the link is here:
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Re-enable Windows Defender real-time protection:
  • Right-click on the Windows Defender icon in the system tray [it's the one with the red and yellow bulls-eye].
  • Click on Security Agents Status
  • Click on Enable real-time protection
  • Next right-click on the Windows Defender icon in the system tray again to open the program
  • Click on the Options menu and choose Settings
  • In the left pane column click on Real Time Protection
  • Under Startup Options, check Enable Security Agents on startup (recommended)
  • Under Real-time spyware threat protection, check Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended)
  • Click the Save button and close Windows Defender
Once complete, please post any output from FXStBlst.exe and a new HijackThis log.
Hi Jasonkid, How are you getting on? If the instructions are unclear or something isn't working, please let me know before proceeding.
Silver I'm sorry I haven't posted lately I was gone for the weekend. I used FXStBlst.exe but nothing was found so nothing was removed.

Hi Jasonkid,

The scans are fine so it looks like your machine is clean of malware. Are you still experiencing the same slowdown problem as originally?

With regard to the network issue, I recommend posting at PC Pitstop, the site is a great resource for this type of problem and I'm sure they will be able to help, and it may also resolve the browsing speed issue.

I have some recommendations to help keep your machine clean:

Ensure your operating system is automatically kept up to date by using Windows Update:
Go to Start->Control Panel->Automatic Updates
Select Automatic and select a suitable schedule

You have good protection software installed however please ensure it is kept up to date. Check that McAfee and Windows Defender are set to automatically update.

IESPYADS helps protect you from malicious websites by placing a list of known bad websites in Internet Explorer's Restricted Zone. This Zone limits the capabilities of these websites including preventing them from installing software. This will compliment your security software and I recommend you install it:

Consider a custom hosts file such as MVPS HOSTS. This custom hosts file effectively blocks a wide range of unwanted ads, banners, 3rd party Cookies, 3rd party page counters, web bugs, and many hijackers.
For information on how to download and install, please read this tutorial by WinHelp2002
If you install this, please be sure to follow the DNS Client service instructions.

Please let me know how your machine is running, and if there are any other issues.
Thanks for all your help. I will take your advice on using pitstop, looks like it may be a network problem. The problem happens when I restart my computer I am unable to connect to the internet without using a program called tunexp, I have to renew i.p. which is under the ip settings. Also the internet seems to lack the speed it once had. Again thanks for the help and I appreciate the fact that you help people out without receiving any sort of payment, not to many people will do that. If you ever need anything and I am able to help let me know.
Since this issue appears to be resolved … this Topic has been closed. Glad we could be of assistance.
