I really not sure what is going on with my system but I did download a program from the internet and I think I got some kind of spy/adware it keeps opening web sites without me even going there and all kind of virus ads on top of that my computer is running very slow can someone please help me I really need to use my computer without any problems. O by the way I have also downloaded some free scan for virus and spy/aware by the one I already had and nothing has worked so far. :  Thanks CMcKee
CMcKee :D

Welcome to the forum, I really can't help you until you post a Hijackthis log so I can see whats going on on your system.

Hijackthis 1.99.1
Its important that Hijackthis is installed in its own permanent folder for backup purposes.
  • Use the link above or the links in my signature to download HJT 1.99.1 setup to your desktop
  • Double Click on the Setup icon and by defaut it will unzip to C:\Program Files\Hijackthis
  • Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
  • Go to Edit> Select All…..Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread.
  • Please use [external image: Posted Image]and not [external image: Posted Image]
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
I'm sorry but I think I have the problem fixed now I download spywarebot was in one of your form notes so far everything is o.k now i think Thank you so much for responing
Not a problem, glad things are well  If you feel you still may have issues and want me to check your log for you please post a HJT log and let me check it over.

How did I get infected in the first place ? Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.

Here are some free programs to install, don't leave home without them
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give you the option to deny the change.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 2.0 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  • Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.
Ken :D
Yep, I still need to see a log. I have no idea what operating system you have, if its updated, or what you have installed on your system good and bad. Ken :D
Good morning here is the log that you requested I hope you can help me with this I have been working on this all week and still unable to fix it my self I have downloaded a number of spy/aware for free and I have paid for some of them and still nothing has worked. What I did was to download a program from limewire and my computer has been acting up ever since.

Thanks

You have some issues going on that we need to fix. After we get you clean I will give you links to free programs to install to help keep you more secure.

You may want to print this out as we will be offline for most of the fix.

You need to enable windows to show all files and folders, instructions Here

It's extremely important that you follow these instructions for the AVG Scan and save the report for me to see, it shows what and what not was removed along with an extensive report that may lead to other infections that are not showing on your HJT log.

Download and install the 30 day trial of AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 to your desktop. It's very important that I see the report so make sure you follow the instructions and save the log.
  • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
  • Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine <– Dont forget this
  • Under Reports
  • Select Automatically generate report after every scan
  • Un-Select Only if threats were found
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 <– Do not run the scan yet.

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

Good Morning,

Sorry for the delay in responding but I am away for the weekend with limited internet access. We did not accomplish much, either you did not check all the items to remove with HJT or one of your programs is preventing the removal.

Print out the following instructions as you will not have Internet Access for the rest of this fix.

Download Process Explorer to your desktop.

Download Pocket Killbox to your desktop, unzip it to a folder that you can find

Reboot into Safemode

To Enter Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard

You also did not follow the instructions correctly for AVG Anti Spyware, if you look at the report, it says NO ACTION TAKEN, I needed you to Remove or quarantine what it found so I suggest re reunning that program and post the new report
Good morning Ben I can't run Pocket Billbox this is what I'm getting c:\documents and setting\hp_admin\my doc\killbox.exe is not a valid win 32 application however I did start all the other things you told me to do to this point what do you want me to do now. Carol
Lets run Avenger to get rid of that bad file.

1. Please download The
Avenger
by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
  • Click on Avenger.zip to
    open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Files to Delete:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\icwres.dll

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user,
do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
  • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
  • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
  • Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
  • Click Done
  • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh HJT log by using Add/Reply

Let me see the Avenger log, the new AVG report after your new scan and a new HJT log
I can do a cut and paste from the save report should I do that or what do you want me to do? I will not be going on line from the desk top cause I keep getting all of those pop ups and blank pages so until we get this fix I will be using a notebook which I do have some issue with it too but that will be next. Thanks for all your help Until later Carol
