I see you are running Home edition and you have a nice system.

Can you upgrade to IE7? Is the order software compatible?

I would try that. It's a nicer browser than IE6.

I upgraded to IE 7 and it is shutting down even more now. Also, I tried to log in to my scottrade account and it took me to a fake webpage (although the URL appeared legit) asking for a bunch of personal info (name, DOB, SSN, etc..). So, here is a new HJT log:

I'd like to ask you about the Yahoo Widget engine. You have 3 of them runing. What widgets are they and would you consider uninstalling those? It is probably available within the Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs


Next Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Then, let's rename HijackThis to scanner.exe and run it. I'm sure you know gow to rename a file; right click the file, left click rename.

Then post the new log please.

I realize you won't be able to do this until Monday, but this is the next step. :ph34r:


1. Quit all programs that are running.

2. Click Start, and then click Run.

3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.

4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):

• Shdocvw.dll
• Actxprxy.dll
• Oleaut32.dll
• Mshtml.dll
• Browseui.dll
• Shell32.dll


Restart the computer to enable the changes to take effect.

Yeah, I followed your directions. When I tried to register mshtml.dll, I got the following message:

mshtml.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. The file can not be registered.

The uninstall and reinstall wouldn't be a bad idea. But before you do that try this. Create a new profile on the computer and see if the same thing happens within that profile. Many things can be profile-specific. If it doesn't happen, that is great. You would then retrieve the important data from the old account and import to the new account. Are you familiar with how to create a new profile? B)

I tried to uninstall/reinstall it through the Add/Remove Programs - Add/Remove Windows Components but when I reinstalled it was still IE 7.0 and none of my favorites or settings had changed so I don't think it really uninstalled it. :wall: Not sure where to go from here. PLEASE HELP… THANKS
