Question, why are they turning off the protection while playing games? I assume it's causing performance issues? I would not advise doing this unless it's absolutely necessary (and even then I still do not advise it). Dave

you are right sir, since they do not play online games, they deactivate avast's resident scanner and firewall since it causes performance issues, our processor is Pentium III 996 mhz, 512mb RAM, and 128mb GeForce Mx 4000 video card. no matter what i tell them they still turn the protection off to achieve better gameplay, and after playing of course they forget to turn it back on..and then the other unexperienced user will surf the internet not knowing that the protection is not turned on..so i came with the idea of using batch files to help both these users. i think i do not have any other choice because they won't listen to me...

The only thing I can advise is to leave the protection on at all times. If you can come up with batch files to turn protection of and on when needed then more power to you. It's not something that I can advise on though. Sorry, Dave

Richard,

If you come up with a truly "safe and secure" way of doing that you should get a patent and look for a way to market it :D ;)

And considering you guys are on dial up it's not as big a deal but with an always on high speed internet connection that strategy just won't work.

Peace,
Dave
