I need to see the AVG log and a new HJT log please.

Good Morning Carole :D

Those 013 entries on your log should be removed by HJT, something is preventing it from being removed.

Here is how to restore anything that we remove with HJT in case of a problem.

To restore the backups:
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on "View the list of Backups"
  • Place a check mark next to anything you want to restore
  • Click Restore
  • Click Yes
  • Reboot your computer

Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall AVG Anti Spyware, it was just a trial and the Background Guard could be stopping the removal of those entries.

You should have an Icon for Norton System Works on your system tray down by the clock on the right that looks like it may contain Anti Virus software, right click on that icon and look for an option to shut down the program.

Use the links in my signature to download and install Ad-Aware Se Personal 1.06
  • During installation, follow all the defaults.
  • Start the program and Check for Updates
  • Choose Perform a Full System Scan
  • Take the checkmark out of Search for Negligable Files
  • Run the scan
  • When it is done, Right Click on One of the Entries/ Select All/ Next and let it remove all that if finds.
  • You can read over the tutorial if you would likeHere

Then remove these with HJT.

Post the log from Ad-Aware and a new HJT log
Hi Ken
Still no joy I'm afraid. Followed your instructions but 013s still there.
The icon in the systems tray is not Norton System Works it is Nortons Ghost and I don't know how to turn that off. To tell you the truth I don't even know how to use it. My son in law installed it when he built my computer. He installed it so he could put my drive from my old computer onto the new computer, this was three years ago and I still don't know what to do with it but I am not game to get rid of it in case it does something horrible. Same story with the old drive I am not sure that if I delete it, it may do something to my system.
These are my logs

Your not a pain so don't even give it a thought . Ad Aware is showing nothing bad. I don't know why those 013 entries won't go away, I am going to have to look into it, although they are not pointing to any bad sites they should not be there. I don't believe they are related to your slow down problem.

I would like you to run both these scans, take your time because I will be away today. Panda may take awhile but Blacklight is quiick, I need to see the reports so be sure to save them.

Use the Graphical User Interface version
Download and Save Blacklight to your desktop:
  • Double-click blbeta.exe
  • Then accept the agreement
  • Click > scan then > next
  • You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).
  • Copy and paste this log in your next reply.
  • Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

Run Panda's ActiveScan from here and perform a full system scan.
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the "Scan your PC" button
  • A new window will open…click the big "Check Now" button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It will take a couple minutes)
  • If you are on a slow connection it will take about 15 minuites for the scanner to load.
  • Click on "Local Disks" to start the scan
  • Once scan is done, click "see report" then "save report"
  • Save the log someplace you can find
  • 12. Reboot
  • Post the Panda scan results in your next reply
Carol,

Right click on the AVG Free Anti Virus Program on your system tray and disable it.

Then disable the Tea Timer in Spybot Search and Destroy.
We need to disable the Tea Timer in Spybot Search and Destroy as to not interfere with the fix.
  • Open Spybot and go to Mode> Advanced Mode> Tools> Resident and take the checkmark out of Tea Timer
Then try again to remove these with HJT.

I still need to see the results of Panda and Blacklight.
Hi Ken Sorry I have been a few days but I have had visitors so I had no time for the computer. Still no joy with the 013 items. I think they have become part of the family. I scanned with Panda and it found some spyware and a virus but it didn't disinfect because I haven't paid any money. Do you have any suggestions for disinfecting. The programs I have didn't pick these problems up. Here are the reports Incident Status Location Spyware:Cookie/BurstNet Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Carole\Cookies\carole@burstnet[2].txt Spyware:Cookie/Com.com Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Carole\Cookies\carole@com[1].txt Spyware:Cookie/Statcounter Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Carole\Cookies\carole@statcounter[1].txt Virus:Eicar.Mod Not disinfected C:\Program Files\PestPatrol\Help.chm[/HowCanITestDetection.html] Adware:Adware/IST.ISTBar Not disinfected C:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-73586283-861567501-839522115-1003\Dc5680.zip[dev.exe] Adware:Adware/IST.ISTBar Not disinfected C:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-73586283-861567501-839522115-1003\Dc5681.exe 04/02/07 21:47:13 [Info]: BlackLight Engine 1.0.61 initialized 04/02/07 21:47:13 [Info]: OS: 5.1 build 2600 (Service Pack 2) 04/02/07 21:47:13 [Note]: 7019 4 04/02/07 21:47:13 [Note]: 7005 0 04/02/07 21:47:19 [Note]: 7006 0 04/02/07 21:47:19 [Note]: 7011 1600 04/02/07 21:47:20 [Note]: 7026 0 04/02/07 21:47:20 [Note]: 7026 0 04/02/07 21:47:28 [Note]: FSRAW library version 1.7.1021 04/02/07 22:06:21 [Note]: 7007 0 Carole
Carole,

Panda will only clean viruses and not spyware but you posted the report and thats what I needed to see. It found cookies and some bad entries in your System Restore Program, so lets flush it all out.

System Restore makes regular backups of all your settings, if you ever had to use this program to restore your system to a previous date, you will be infected all over again so we need to clean out the previous Restore Points. I can't stress enough how important it is to Create a New Restore Point.

Turn off System Restore.
  • Right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
Reboot your System

Turn ON System Restore.
  • Right-click My Computer.
  • ClickProperties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • UN-Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
Create a new Restore Point <– Very Important
  • Go to Start/ Control Panel/ Performance and Maintenance/ System Restore/ Create a New Restore Point
You can name the restore point anything you like, something that you can remember, You will have to be in Catagory View to see this
System Restore Tutorial <– If you need it

Blacklight found nothing

Panda picked up entries in your System Restore for a 1st Bar infection, not sure if its still on your system as there is no entries on your HJT log for it, lets run the tool to make sure.

Download this to your desktop and run it
FxIstbar

Then do this
* Start Internet Explorer.
* Click Tools > Internet Options.
* In the Temporary Internet Files section, then click the Delete Files button.
* Check Delete all offline content, and then click OK.

Then
* Click Start > Settings > Control Panel
* Select Internet Options
* Select the Programs tab
* Click Reset Web Settings
* Click OK
* Exit Control Panel

Run this cleaner

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main - choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Then try removing those 013 entries again and see what happens, although I am finding that possibly since there not pointing to any malicious sites that they might not be a problem. I have researched this on a few other forums and they are being removed successfully with HJT so I don't know why they won't go away on yours.

Post a new HJT log please
Hi Ken
Completed everything. 013s still here I think I will adopt them.
Thank you so much for all your help you have been so patient.
This is my latest HJT log.

Carole, :D You have Norton Ghost running, this is just a shot in the dark but I am wondering since this program makes backups of your system if its restoring them automatically. Why don't you try disabling that program and fix those entries with HJT, then run HJT again and see if there gone. I don't think its anything to lose sleep over but I am going to research more on this. How is your system running now??
Carol,

Disable the Tea Timer in Spybot Search and Destroy and then reboot your computer.
  • Open Spybot and go to Mode> Advanced Mode> Tools> Resident and take the checkmark out of Tea Timer

Then right click on Pest Patrol , the icon should be on your system tray by the clock and shut down or disable this program, then try removing those entries again.

Ken :D
Carol,

I keep getting tips from some of the other malware fighters on this forum :D First off there is something funny about your HJT log.
MSIE: Unable to get Internet Explorer version! <– It always tells the version number so we know if your running IE 6 or upgraded to IE7.

After trying the fixes in my previous posts, if no luck then lets try this.

Download the Stand Alone Version of CWShredder to your desktop.
  • Open CWShredder
  • Check for Updates
  • Close out the program. <– Dont run it yet

    Boot your computer into Safemode
    • Go to Start> Shut Off your Computer> Restart
    • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly.
    • This will bring up a menu.
    • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to SAFEMODE
    • Then press the Enter on your Keyboard
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode

    Fix these with HJT.

    Still in Safemode, Open CWShredder
  • Double-click on CWShredder.exe.
  • Click Fix and click OK at the prompt.
  • CWShredder will scan and clean your system of CWS files.
  • Click Next and then Exit .
Reboot your system

Depending on how your manufacturer set up your system, you may or may not need the Windows XP CD.
  • Click Start>Run
  • Type in sfc /scannow, hit Enter.
  • Note: there is a space between sfc and /scannow
  • This should replace any corrupted/missing system files and will hopefully fix things.
You may need your XP disc in your CD drive for this.
