First time user of highjackthis. Really don't what to do with this file. From reading about it in some of the forums, I think some things are needed to be deleted. But like it says, don't delete anything until help arrrives. Will appreciate any and all help I can get. thanks.
Hi dhac,

Welcome to the Tomcoyote forum! I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.
HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need
your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happens.

In order to help me help you, please observe the following while we work:
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't continue, we don't want to start all over again!
  • Understand that cleaning your computer can sometimes take multiple passes/posts,
and it's important to follow the steps as listed including re-running scans as listed
  • Please reply to this thread, do not start another.

If you can do those three things, everything should go smoothly
Hi dhac,

It looks like some things may had been removed but I still see signs of infections.
First things first.

Please this first:
Hijackthis is running from a Temp folder. In order to create and keep backups, Hijackthis needs to run from in side a folder.
If you have created a short cut Icon on desktop delete it now. We will clean out the one in your temp folder later do not worry about it now.

Re-Download HijackThis and save to your Desktop. Click HERE
  • Double click on HJTSetup.exe and by default it should install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This
  • Make sure to read dialogue screen when installing and put a check in the box create a desktop Icon when you get to that prompt screen. This will create a short cut on your desktop.
  • Follow all the prompts, click Finish, and let the installer start HijackThis.
  • Click the Do a System Scan and Save a Log File option.
  • Notepad will open with the Hijackthis log, please post it's content here.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Paste the log in your next reply.
This is important to have done first.
————————————————————–

Please disable Spybot S&D TeaTimer, as it may hinder the removal of the infection. You can enable it after you're clean. To disable SpybotSD TeaTimer:
  • Open Spybot and click on Mode and check Advanced Mode
  • Check Yes to next window.
  • Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner.
  • Click on System Startup icon.
  • Uncheck Teatimer box.
  • Click Allow Change box.

  • ——————————————————————-

    Please do the followng:

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) make sure to click the Save button not Run button and save to your Desktop.
    http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe

    Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a 'RiskTool'; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between 'good' and 'malicious' use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
    ————————————————————

Make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

    1.Start HijackThis

    3. Click on the Misc Tools button

    [external image: Posted Image]

    [external image: Posted Image]

    5. Click on the Save list… button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save list button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply. Note: please uncheck word wrap under format in notepad

Post HJT Uninstall list in next reply

Hello dhac

I see you already have Ccleaner please make sure it is set up like the following to help shorten scan time.
Spybot S&D TeaTimer should still be disabled for this too.

Here we are going to clean out cookies and temp files from your computer.

*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders. If you have anything in a temp folder, back it up or move it to a permanent folder prior to running CCleaner!
  • Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
  • On the Windows tab, under Internet Explorer,
  • All Boxes should have a check mark. (You will need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).
  • On the Windows tab, under Windows Explorer,
  • All Boxes should have a check mark.
  • On the Windows tab, under System,
  • All Boxes should have a check mark.
  • On the Windows tab, under Advanced,
  • NO check marks
[*]If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to put check in for "Cookies" is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla. If already checked move to next step.

[*]Click on the "Options" icon at the left side of the window, then click on "Advanced."

deselect "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours."
[*]Click on the "Cleaner" icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.

[*]Caution: It is not recommended that you use the "Issues" feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items.

[*]After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit.

[*]You will need to reboot here if not ask to do so.

Tim S. Not sure on the AVG part. I'm running AVG free. It doesn't appear quite like what you describle. However, I hit the wrong button, and it ran a scan or test, forgat what I was doing at that time. Anyway it said there were no problems. Do not have "firefox/mozilla". Can "smitfraudfix" be ran separatley or in cordiation with your instructions? Actually I don't think I have a problem, however you said you noticed some signs of infection. Needless to say I'm not to sharp on computers. So appreciate your help and patience. dhac
Okay.. I firgured it out. Can't read very good either. Didn't know there was a AVG anti-spyware. Been using Spybot & Spyblaster. My connections take quite awhile to downline. Only have dialup. Don't think I want to spend $40.00 to keep Avg Spyware thoe.
Hello dhac,

You do not have to buy the program when the free trail ends it turns to a feature-limited freeware version. Which will still update to help remove some infections.

quote from AVG website:

This setup contains the free as well as the paid version of AVG Anti-Spyware. After the installation, a free 30-day trial version containing all the extensions of the full version will be activated. At the end of the trial, these extensions will be deactivated and the program will turn into a feature-limited freeware version. The purchased license code can be entered at any time.

Hi dhac

Thanks for posting logs.

I do not see a firewall program in Your HiJackThis log. AVG Free Edition does not come with a firewall.
Here are some links for firewalls you can use with AVG free Edition that are free for home personal use only:

Comodo http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
ZoneAlarm: http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/comp…reeDownload.jsp
Jetico Personal Firewall : http://www.jetico.com/

Make sure not install but one of the programs I have listed here. Installing more than one firewall can cause conflicts between two programs that do the same job Which could leave you open to infections. If you have any questions please ask before doing anything.

——————————————————————————-

This program should still be turned off (disabled) or it will block removal SpybotSD TeaTimer

——————————————————————————-

Now we need to do some more cleaning. Please do the following:

  • Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
  • Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
  • Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.
Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.
—————————————————————————–

This is next:

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present):
O2 - BHO: XBTB01994 - {5CDD839E-255C-415D-9927-3AF98318D15B} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\Search\wizard.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FFFFFEF0-5B30-21D4-945D-000000000000} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: Search - {BFB5F154-9212-46F3-B547-AC6106030A54} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\Search\wizard.dll (file missing)

WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.
