:wavey: Well, hello everyone... I'm new to this site, and I thought coming here may save my computer...

I recently found in my system32 file named pmkhh.dll... I Googled it and found that it may be a backdoor virus.. Not only to add to that, my spyware program (Trend Micro Anti-Spyware) has been detecting something trying to change my Explorer Shell settings every 10 minutes or so. Once again, it was found in my system32 folder and it's called urqroll.dll. I allowed the change to happen once instead of denying it, and I found that it is indeed a popup problem...

I ran HiJackThis and this is what I got:

I'm currently in Tech School, and someday I'll be able to decipher all this and solve it all on my own, but until that day comes... I thought I would go and ask for help from someone who knew what they were doing. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me solve my problem...! :)

...Oh, and if it is a virus of sorts, removal instructions would be really cool, because my spyware program (Trend Micro Anti-Spyware) and my virus program (Symantec AntiVirus) aren't picking up anything at all anymore... Thanks again!

Hello Mattacon and welcome to the forums here at Tom Coyote.

A couple of things to go over first.

You are using the new HJT Beta 2.0.0. While there is nothing wrong with this it is still in Beta and we still recommend running version 1.99.1 at this point. Please download, HijackThis v1.99.1.
Be sure to replace your old HijackThis.exe with this new one by saving over it or deleting your old one before downloading the current version.

Also, I suspect Vundo may be hiding here so please rename HijackThis.exe to something else, like Spyware.exe, ect...

Please repost a new updated log.

Regards,
Dave

And thanks so much for the awesomely quick response. :)

Oh and as a side note, my computer likes to restart itself at very strange times. I noticed it only seems to happen when I open an application, but mainly my games. I'm not sure if this is related at all, but it'd be nice to fix that as well. Thanks again!

Ah yes Bingo, it's Vundo alright.

Please download
VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click Yes
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from Click the Scan for Vundo button when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Regards,
Dave

Now I'm beginning to wonder why Logitech takes up half my log, but I'll leave it alone. So far, my computer hasn't restarted itself, and it seems to be running better than it has been before, but the presence of urqroll.dll still makes me nervous. :unsure:

Well, Dave, thanks for making my entry into the forums a happy one, and thanks for all of your help. :lol:

If any other problems arise, I'll be sure to make it known. THANKS AGAIN!!! :thumbup:

Wait....we're not done yet here! You still have some leftovers from Vundo and an at this point unidentified trojan present.

Please do the following:

Please download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Double click on SDFix.exe. It should automatically extract a folder called SDFix to your system drive (usually C:\). Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the SDFix folder and double click on RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y and press Enter to begin the script.
  • It will start cleaning your PC and then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any key to restart the PC.
  • Your system will take longer than normal to restart as the fixtool will be removing files.
  • When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished.
  • Press any key to end the script and to load your desktop icons.
  • A text file should automatically open, so please copy the contents and post them here. We also need you to post a new HijackThis log

SDDix told me to run CatchMe located in it's folder. Your directions were very thorough and I'd hate to ruin them (thanks for the easy *easy* directions, by the way), so a question I have is whether or not I should run it still? Thanks! ^_^

Well, that was short lived. Trend Micro is still informing me that something has been installed on my system and is thying to execute shell settings. It happens at random times though, and doesn't seem to be associated with any program that I run myself (that I know of). I'll keep you updated. :unsure:

Hello Mattacon,

You have a pretty seriously infected machine here. I need you to run another tool.

Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.

Close all windows before continuing.
Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
Put a check next to Run this program as a task.

You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 10 seconds. Click OK
When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.

You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
Your computer will then shutdown.

Turn your computer back on.
Please post the contents of C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
If you receive a message from your firewall about this program accessing the internet please allow it.

If you receive a runtime error '339' please download MSWINSCK.OCX from the link below and place it in your C:\Windows\System32 Directory.

The help you receive here is free, but if you would like to help me continue the fight against Malware then Posted Image

Logs will be closed if you haven't replied within 5 days

Meh... That was a lot togher than I had hoped it'd be. HiJackThis closes before it had a chance to make it's logfile and it took me several attempts. I didn't know that my computer had such issues. I'll start with the HiJackThis log only because I don't want to lose it. Oh, and the TXT file closes itself too.

And here's the log from the Look2Me App you gave me:

Look2Me-Destroyer V1.0.12

Scanning for infected files.....
Scan started at 3/22/2007 3:03:15 PM

Attempting to delete infected files...

Making registry repairs.

Restoring Windows certificates.

Replaced hosts file with default windows hosts file

Restoring SeDebugPrivilege for Administrators - Succeeded

It didn't delete anything to my knowledge.. But that's just it: *my* knowledge. Hopefully you can make odds and ends of it... My Spyware program is no longer kicking up. I'll try restarting my computer again, but I don't know if it will solve anything... :( Hope to hear from you soon!

Also, on another side note which I just did... I did not recieve a runtime error at all, but I downloaded MSWINSCK.OCX anyways, and moved it to my system32 folder. I don't know if it means anything, but the two files were different in size, but I always believed that all system32 files were made to be the same. I was wondering if this is a main cause of my issues. Thanks again. ^_^

Also found in my Task Manager which I have never seen before: clcr.exe. Just thought I'd put that in. It take up 64000k-100000k of my memory usage, and I terminated it out of fear, really.

Hi Mattacon,

Let's try the manual way...

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
Please reverse this process once the fix is complete.

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - <default> - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [2chkdsk] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\xhtmwdtr.dll",setvm
O20 - Winlogon Notify: awvtu - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvtu.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: ddcdccy - ddcdccy.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: notifyc - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ccc.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: vtuvstr - vtuvstr.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: winbfi32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winbfi32.dll

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

Using Windows Explorer delete the following files if found:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\xhtmwdtr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvtu.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ccc.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winbfi32.dll

Please do a search for three of the files as follows:
Start > Search > All Files And Folders
Under More Advanced Options, make sure the following are checked:
*Search system folders
*Search hidden files and folders
*Search subfolders
Then copy and paste the following(one at a time) in the search box:

ddcdccy.dll
vtuvstr.dll

If found delete all instances of these files.

Reboot and post a new HJT log for review. Please also let me know how things are running.

Dave

Before I go through with the steps you have given me, I have encountered another issue... HiJackThis will no longer run. I'm have uninstalled it from my system, and tried reinstalling it, but I still have the same problem. It will be there for about two seconds, and then just disappear. Should I go through with the remaining steps? I have rehidden the files you asked me to unhide for the moment. Also, Trend Micro Anti-Spyware can no longer run. Same issue. I've tried installing HiJackThis in Safe Mode, but same issue there as well. :( Symantec Ani-Virus still running, but I have to manually open it. It no longer runs in the background anymore. I'm tempted to switch my anti-virus to Avast. Any suggestions while I'm on the topic?

Try renaming HJT and run again.
