Well the scans aren't finding much of anything and your HJT log appears clean, as it has for a while now. At this point I would try to go ahead and update to SP2 if possible.

I'll tell you what changed.. the trend micro online scan found a few things, and actually finished the program without that error i was getting. I think it cleaned a few things up and also it showed a list of vulnerable areas.. that i am thinking will be taken care of with SP2. i did see where Kaspersky showed 2 more viruses left.... did you see them and is there anything I should do about them? if not, i'll go ahead to windows update and see how that goes.

One of the items Kaspersky found was in a quarantine folder and the other in a restore point. So I don't think there is anything to be concerned about.

alright!
burned some midnight oil,, and struggled
thru some registry issues,, but, finally,
SP2!!!
along with 57 sp1 updates, then 37 more SP2 updates afterwards.

Windows UPdate is working.

here is new HJT log, and i would ask for
advise on cleanup, and final steps to
make sure things are AOK

thanks again

windows update seems to be working fine, it took another 32 updates last nite. the trend micro scan did find another issue last nite, something about "adware_commoncomponent". but it couldn't clean it. I am running another kapersky scan this morning and will post pics of that lunchtime when i go home trend micro did find 30 "security" issues but i didn't take the time to click on every one and read about it. is there a security update for windows? i'd like to wrap up this process, and get the computer back to my friend ASAP,, are we close to doing that, and what other precautions should I take. I will leave AVG installed, do you recommend a different anti spyware program? also, what about firewalls.. should I install the zonealarm for him? thanks again, dutch
