Hi Merlyn48,

In that case, you will need to either Disable the anti-virus on Zone Labs or un-install Avast. It is not a good idea to have multiple anti-virus programs running together as they will conflict and cause problems. Please decide which one you want to do.

On to your problem...please do the following...

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

1. Please download FixWareout from one of these sites and save it to your desktop:
http://downloads.sub.../Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingc.../Fixwareout.exe
  • Double click Fixwareout.exe to run it.
  • Click Next, then Install.
  • Make sure Run fixit is checked and click Finish.
  • The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
  • You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
  • Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
  • At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.
  • A report.txt file will be created in the C:\fixwareout folder. Please keep it safe as I'll need to see it soon.
2. Open HijackThis
- Click the Do a system scan only button
- Check the following entries (below)

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - ~CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - ~00A6FAF6-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - (no file)

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{C58AA32D-C768-4673-97A7-F7DC6D8804E0}: NameServer = 85.255.114.94,85.255.112.132
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.114.94 85.255.112.132
O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.114.94 85.255.112.132
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.114.94 85.255.112.132

- Close ALL open windows (especially Internet Explorer!)
- Click Fix Checked
Close HiajckThis

3. Now lets check some settings on your system.

(2000/XP) Only
  • Click Start > Connect to > Show all connections.
  • Right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl.
  • Left click on Properties.
  • Click the Networking tab.
  • Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically.
  • Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks. (That option might not be avaiable on some systems).
Next!
  • Click Start > Run type cmd and hit OK.
  • Type ipconfig /flushdns then hit enter, (Note: there is a space between ipconfig and /flushdns).
  • Type exit hit enter.
4. Please post the FixWareut report, along with a new HijackThis log.

Thanks for all your help.

Hi Merlyn48! Good job! :D

Please do the following...

1. Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update to the latest version...

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 .
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement."
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove the following...
    • Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.0_01
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.
2. Please do an online scan with Panda ActiveScan

- Once you are on the Panda site, click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

Post the contents of the Panda scan report, along with a new HijackThis Log

Ok, did the HiJack, but cannot get the antivirus to run. Note I do not use Microsoft IE. I do use SeaMonkey as my only browser. Thanks :o

Ah, that's why. The scans will only work in IE. It is your choice, if you want to run the scan(s). If you don't, that is fine. Your HijackThis log is clean. Are there any more problem?
