Hi,

It's looking very good. How is the computer running now? I see some reference to Trojan Zlob and Antivermeans in the AVG AS log. Though they have been quarantined, I would like to check if there is anything remaining.

=========================================

Go to My Computer> Tools> Folder Options> View>"Uncheck" Hide protected operating system files. Click Apply>OK.

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to locate and delete the following files.

C:\sysreset\addons\moo.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\RegistryCleanerSetup.exe[RegistryCleaner.exe]

=========================================

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert you. Please allow it.

Hi,

Well, there is something left over. We'll continue with the second phase of the tool.

these instructions are a little vague Go to My Computer> Tools> Folder Options> View>"Uncheck" Hide protected operating system files. Click Apply>OK. I could not find a tools folder in my computer but here is the smitfraudfix log

Sorry they were not clear enough. For future reference, when you click on My Computer, a new window will open and you can see the "tools" in the menu bar. When you click on the "tools", in the drop down menu you'll see the Folder Options, and when you click on the Folder Options, the window will open with three tabs. The tab in the middle is the "View" page where you can scroll down to find the "Hide protected operating system files" and uncheck it.

===============================

Please run Notepad and paste the following text inside the Code box into a new file: It's important that you use notepad, not wordpad.

attrib -r -h -s C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ctpmon.exe
del C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ctpmon.exe

Save the file to the desktop as remove.bat and make sure the "Save as Type" field says "All Files". Then please go to the desktop and double-click on remove.bat.

===============================

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Next go to Control Panel click Display>Desktop>Customize Desktop>Web> Now, Uncheck Everything and delete if present:
· "Security Info"
· "Warning Message"
· "Security Desktop"
· "Warning Homepage"
· "Desktop Uninstall"

Also make sure the 'Lock desktop items' box is unticked. Click OK, and then Click Apply, then OK.

Please post the Rapport.txt and also let me know how the computer is running now.

That usually happens when the computer is forced to shut down, in other words, when either the power supply is disconnected or the power button is pressed instead of going through the normal Start>Turn Off your computer procedure to shut it down. It's hard to say without knowing what the exact error message was. Is it working OK now?
