Ladies/Gentlemen;

I have a problem with IE6 sp2 in that when I go to different websites or even working on a forum and answering certain threads, I get kicked offline immediately. I would appreciate any assistance in viewing my log file.

Thank you very much.

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

Sir;

Here is a new copy of my log. I was going to include the AVG test but there were no faults found and I ran the CCleaner with no problems. I shall await your response and a sincere thank you for your assistance.

I hope I have returned the information you required.

Regards

carholme :D

You picked up and infection since your original post, it was not present on the first HJT log you posted.

Your computer has been hijacked by the lovely people in the Ukraine, you are infected with Wareout.

85.255.112.0 - 85.255.127.255
Inhoster hosting company
OOO Inhoster, Poltavskij Shliax 24, Kharkiv, 61000, Ukraine

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
FixWareout Subratam
FixWareout Lonny
  • Save it to your desktop and run it.
  • Click Next, then Install,
  • Then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
  • The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
  • You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
  • Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
  • At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.
Save the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt and post it into your next reply.

Now lets check some settings on your system. For (2000/XP) Only)
  • Go to Start > control panel.
  • If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections.
  • Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl.
  • Left click on properties.
  • Click the Networking tab.
  • Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
  • Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be available on some systems

  • Next Go start> Run type cmd and hit OK
  • Type in ipconfig /flushdns then hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)
  • Type exit hit enter

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{59C786FA-B3A3-48E2-9AD3-3E7735FC4A3D}: NameServer = 85.255.115.38,85.255.112.103
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{B917028E-4B35-4472-B308-B18A4B7DCC42}: NameServer = 85.255.115.38,85.255.112.103
O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.115.38 85.255.112.103

carholme :D

You can call me Ken, Sir makes me feel like and old man :D

It looks like we got rid of that infection, but I see a few minor things on your log that need to be fixed.

Remove these with HJT.

You have TWO ANTI VIRUS PROGRAMS RUNNING This is a real No No, its recommended by Microsoft and all other tech support people that you should never have more than one program installed and running. So its your call but you need to uninstall one of them via the Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

The rest of your log looks fine  How is your system behaving now??

Ken; Computer seems to be running fine now. I will fix the ones you have indicated and remove the AVG, which I was only using for the purposes of this operation. Once again many thanks Regards Gerry

Malware Complaints
Are you mad ? I mean really mad, seething mad, so mad your ready to spit, mad that you have taken your hard earned dollars to buy a computer only to have some Miscredents, Dirt Bags and Cyber Criminals install a malicious program on your computer without your knowledge or consent. You can post your complaint at the above site. If you live in the U.S.A. you can also report your grievance to your State Attorney Generals Office and the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer Protection.

How did I get infected in the first place ? Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.

Here are some free programs to install, don't leave home without them
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give you the option to deny the change.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 2.0 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  • Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.
Thanks for stopping by Tom Coyote , I'm glad I was able to help you. :D

Ken;

Wasn't too long before I realized that my browser has been hijacked as when I do a search, it takes me to a strange site which I am not familiar with.

I have enclosed the HJT report as is after AVG scan in Safe Mode. AVG report included also.

Regards

Gerry

carholme,

It does not look like you uninstalled AVG completely, if its listed in the Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel go ahead and uninstall it.

Then remove these with HJT.
O23 - Service: AVG7 Alert Manager Server (Avg7Alrt) - GRISOFT, s.r.o. - C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgamsvr.exe
O23 - Service: AVG7 Update Service (Avg7UpdSvc) - GRISOFT, s.r.o. - C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgupsvc.exe
O23 - Service: AVG E-mail Scanner (AVGEMS) - GRISOFT, s.r.o. - C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgemc.exe

The rest of your log looks fine, but if your being redirected there could be another problem hiding from us.

Run Panda's ActiveScan from here and perform a full system scan.
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the "Scan your PC" button
  • A new window will open...click the big "Check Now" button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It will take a couple minutes)
  • If you are on a slow connection it will take about 15 minuites for the scanner to load.
  • Click on "Local Disks" to start the scan
  • Once scan is done, click "see report" then "save report"
  • Save the log someplace you can find
  • 12. Reboot
  • Post the Panda scan results in your next reply
Its important that I see the Panda log so make sure you save it and post a new HJT log also

Ken;

Tried as you suggested and I should note that I have been doing this all with System Restore "Off" just trying to eliminate any storage points for the bad stuff.

A fix on HJT did not remove the "no file" AVG entries and there was nothing in "Add/Remove" other than the entire downloaded program which I did remove prior to Panda, reboot, HJT scan. The Panda has reported a Trojan though.

Regards

Gerry

  • Go to Start> Run and type in services.msc then press Enter
  • Scroll down to AVG7 Alert Manager Server
  • Double Click that service to open it.
  • Click on Stop Service.
  • Then change the Startup Type to Disabled.
  • OK your way out of the program.
Do this also for
AVG7 Update Service (Avg7UpdSvc)
AVG E-mail Scanner (AVGEMS)

Then remove these entries with HJT.

O23 - Service: AVG7 Alert Manager Server (Avg7Alrt) - Symantec Corporation - (no file)
O23 - Service: AVG7 Update Service (Avg7UpdSvc) - Unknown owner - (no file)
O23 - Service: AVG E-mail Scanner (AVGEMS) - Unknown owner - (no file)

Download and Save Blacklight to your desktop:
  • Double-click blbeta.exe
  • Then accept the agreement
  • Click > scan then > next
  • You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).
  • Copy and paste this log in your next reply.
  • Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

Gerry :D

First thing I would do is to re enable System Restore, when we are done we can disable it to flush out old restore points, re enable it and then create a new restore point. If something should happen to your system right now you will be in deep do do with not being able to restore it. Even a bad restore point is better than no restore point.

System Restore makes regular backups of all your settings, if you ever had to use this program to restore your system to a previous date, you will be infected all over again so we need to clean out the previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore.
  • Right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
Reboot your System

Turn ON System Restore.
  • Right-click My Computer.
  • ClickProperties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • UN-Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
Create a new Restore Point <-- Very Important
  • Go to Start/ Control Panel/ Performance and Maintenance/ System Restore/ Create a New Restore Point
You can name the restore point anything you like, something that you can remember, You will have to be in Catagory View to see this
System Restore Tutorial <-- If you need it

Close any instance of Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.
  • Go to Start> Control Panel> Internet Options . You shoud be on the General Tab
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Files > and offline content as well
  • Then go to the Programs Tab and Reset Web Settings

  • Go to My Computer/ C: Drive/ Documents and Settings/ Every User on this Computer /Local Settings and delete all the contents of the Temp Folder and the Temporary Internet Files Folder <--Just the contents, not the folder itself.
  • Go to My Computer/ C:/ Windows/ Temp and delete all the contents of the Temp Folder <-- But not the temp folder itself.
  • Go to My Computer/ C:/ Windows/ Prefetch and remove all the contents of the Prefetch Folder. <--But not the Prefetch folder itself.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\kdexj.exe <-- With windows still enabled to show all files and folders, delete this file if you see it.

Lets also try resetting your Hosts Files
Download HostsXpert v3.7
  • Unzip HostXpert to your desktop
  • Open up the HostXpert program.
  • Make sure that the "Make Hosts Writable?" button in the upper right corner is enabled.
  • Click Create Back Up
  • Then click on Restore Microsoft's Host Files
  • Close the HostXpert program

Reboot your system after your done and see if your still being redirected. All your scans are coming up clean and Panda found just cookies and part of the Fixwareout program.

What webpage are you being redirected to if its still happening???

Ken;

Here is another HJT. I am lost now as my browser is slower than molasses to load but the redirect seems ok.
