Click Start > Run > and type in:

services.msc

Click OK.

In the services window find kipserve if listed.
Right click and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service
Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type"
in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK. Exit the
Services utility.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O23 - Service: kipserve - Unknown owner - c:\winnt\system32\drivers\srvany.exe

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Delete this file:
c:\winnt\system32\drivers\srvany.exe

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Stopped and disabled kipserve and went back to find it in hijackthis but its no longer there. Do I go ahead and delete this file and post a new log?

Some information from old files were left on this computer, i'm wondering if they could be removed without harm. The name of the file/s the austin.com. Thanks

I guess this is what that is, but I don't know.

You can remove any programs I had you install. Use Add/Remove Programs to remove if listed there:

Log looks good

1.Do one of the following:
In Windows 98/Me/2000, on the Windows desktop, double-click the My Computer icon.
In Windows XP, on the taskbar, click Start > My Computer.

2.Do one of the following:
In Windows 98, on the View menu, click Folder Options.
In Windows Me/2000/XP, on the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
On the View tab, check Hide file extensions for known file types.

3.Do one of the following:
In Windows 98, in the Advanced Settings box, under the "Hidden files" folder, unclick Show all files.
In Windows Me/2000/XP, check Hide protected operating system files. Then, under the "Hidden files" folder, unclick Show hidden files and folders.
If you see a warning message, click Yes.
Click Apply.
Click OK.

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. There's also a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

the Austin company was a firm my father in law used to work for. Computer is working fine now. A big thank you for all your help with this issue
