Hi everybody. recently, i can not directly open the external drive(i.e pen drive) shorcut on the desktop. Somehow, the dialog box popped up and showed the error: Can not find script file "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\autorun.vbs" Does anyone know what does this error mean  ? in addition, some web pages will pop up when my computer is first connecting to the internet. so how to prevent this web page from popping up itself? Thanks in advance! ***below is the latest logfile *** Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 3:28:39 PM, on 3/6/2007 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SVCHOST.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXE D:\PROGRA~1\TRENDM~1\INTERN~1\PCCTLCOM.EXE C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\wscript.exe D:\PROGRA~1\TRENDM~1\INTERN~1\Tmntsrv.exe D:\PROGRA~1\TRENDM~1\INTERN~1\TMPFW.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe D:\PROGRAM FILES\TREND MICRO\INTERNET SECURITY 2006\PCCGUIDE.EXE C:\WINDOWS\WUAUCLT.EXE C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\IEXPLORE.EXE E:\HijackThis 2007\HijackThis.exe F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=userinit.exe,autorun.bat O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - D:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - D:\PROGRA~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dll O2 - BHO: AcroIEToolbarHelper Class - {AE7CD045-E861-484f-8273-0445EE161910} - D:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll O3 - Toolbar: Adobe PDF - {47833539-D0C5-4125-9FA8-0819E2EAAC93} - D:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HotKeysCmds] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [FinePrint Dispatcher v5] "C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\fpdisp5a.exe" /runonce O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [pccguide.exe] "D:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Internet Security 2006\pccguide.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft] C:\WINDOWS\wuauclt.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IMJPMIG8.1] "C:\WINDOWS\IME\imjp8_1\IMJPMIG.EXE" /Spoil /RemAdvDef /Migration32 O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSPY2002] C:\WINDOWS\system32\IME\PINTLGNT\ImScInst.exe /SYNC O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PHIME2002ASync] C:\WINDOWS\system32\IME\TINTLGNT\TINTSETP.EXE /SYNC O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PHIME2002A] C:\WINDOWS\system32\IME\TINTLGNT\TINTSETP.EXE /IMEName O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present O8 - Extra context menu item: &WordWeb... - res://C:\WINDOWS\wweb32.dll/lookup.html O8 - Extra context menu item: Convert link target to Adobe PDF - res://D:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll/AcroIECapture.html O8 - Extra context menu item: Convert link target to existing PDF - res://D:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll/AcroIEAppend.html O8 - Extra context menu item: Convert selected links to Adobe PDF - res://D:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll/AcroIECaptureSelLinks.html O8 - Extra context menu item: Convert selected links to existing PDF - res://D:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll/AcroIEAppendSelLinks.html O8 - Extra context menu item: Convert selection to Adobe PDF - res://D:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll/AcroIECapture.html O8 - Extra context menu item: Convert selection to existing PDF - res://D:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll/AcroIEAppend.html O8 - Extra context menu item: Convert to Adobe PDF - res://D:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll/AcroIECapture.html O8 - Extra context menu item: Convert to existing PDF - res://D:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat\AcroIEFavClient.dll/AcroIEAppend.html O8 - Extra context menu item: E&xport to Microsoft Excel - res://D:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~1\OFFICE11\EXCEL.EXE/3000 O9 - Extra button: Research - {92780B25-18CC-41C8-B9BE-3C9C571A8263} - D:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~1\OFFICE11\REFIEBAR.DLL O9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Windows Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe O18 - Protocol: msnim - {828030A1-22C1-4009-854F-8E305202313F} - "C:\PROGRA~1\MSNMES~1\msgrapp.dll" (file missing) O20 - Winlogon Notify: igfxcui - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\igfxsrvc.dll O23 - Service: Adobe LM Service - Adobe Systems - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe Systems Shared\Service\Adobelmsvc.exe O23 - Service: Autodesk Licensing Service - Autodesk - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\Service\AdskScSrv.exe O23 - Service: Trend Micro Central Control Component (PcCtlCom) - Trend Micro Incorporated. - D:\PROGRA~1\TRENDM~1\INTERN~1\PcCtlCom.exe O23 - Service: Trend Micro Real-time Service (Tmntsrv) - Trend Micro Incorporated. - D:\PROGRA~1\TRENDM~1\INTERN~1\Tmntsrv.exe O23 - Service: Trend Micro Personal Firewall (TmPfw) - Trend Micro Inc. - D:\PROGRA~1\TRENDM~1\INTERN~1\TmPfw.exe

alexan :D

You have a worm on your system that we need to remove.

Download SDFix and save it to your desktop.

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
  • In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All,
  • Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the script.
  • It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
  • When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=userinit.exe,autorun.bat

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft] C:\WINDOWS\wuauclt.exe

If you set these yourself or an administrator set them then leave them alone otherwise fix them also
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

You need to enable windows to show all files and folders, instructions Here

C:\WINDOWS\WUAUCLT.EXE <--Delete this file, be careful because this file in windows\system32 is legit.

Post a new HJT log and the log from SDfix

hi ken545,

i'm glab to get the reply from u.

in addition, i had used my antivirus program to remove the viruses yesterday. those viruses detected were " autorun.vbs, sxs.exe, wuauclt.exe "

i have followed the instructions u told me and fixed checked the following:
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

On the other hand, i can not find these two lines:
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=userinit.exe,autorun.bat
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft] C:\WINDOWS\wuauclt.exe
and the file from C:\WINDOWS\WUAUCLT.EXE (note: maybe deleted by my antivirus program)

Besides, i found the "WUAUCLT.EXE-399A8E72.pf" at C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch and "wuauclt" at location C:\WINDOWS\system32 and C:\WINDOWS\system32 \dllcache respectively.
So, do i need to delete them all also?

The scans removed those entries and wuauclt.exe is a legit windows file so leave those other two alone.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up

Click here to download AVG Anti Rootkit and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click on the AVG_AntiRootkit_1.0.0.13.exe file to run it.
  • Click "I Agree" to agree to the EULA.
  • By default it will install to "G:\Program Files\GRISOFT\AVG Anti-Rootkit Beta".
  • Click "Next" to begin the installation then click "Install".
  • It will then ask you to reboot now to finish the installation.
  • Click "Finish" and your computer will reboot.
  • After it reboots, double-click on the AVG Anti-Rootkit Beta shortcut that is now on your desktop.
  • Click on the "Perform in-depth search" button to begin the scan.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it complete.
  • When the scan is finished, click the "Save result to file" button.
  • Save the scan results to your desktop then come back here to copy and paste the results in your next reply to this thread.

Let me see the AVG Rootkit log and a new HJT log please

No rootkit detected, thats good

Your log looks fine but we need to make sure nothing is hiding on us. Run the trial of AVG Anti Spyware, it will clean any bad files along with producing a log for me to see. Its important that I see the log so make sure to save it.

Download and install the 30 day trial of AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 to your desktop.
  • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
  • Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine <-- Dont forget this
  • Under Reports
  • Select Automatically generate report after every scan
  • Un-Select Only if threats were found
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 <-- Do not run the scan yet.
Boot your computer into Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut Off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly.
  • This will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to SAFEMODE
  • Then press the Enter on your Keyboard
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process:
  • Launch AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
  • AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  • Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
  • Next select the Reports icon at the top.
  • Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system
  • make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

I need to see a new HJT lot also please

alexan :D We got rid of the worm, AVG Rootkit found nothing, AVG Anti Spyware found nothing. If you had something bad on your system, AVG would have found it. The rest of your log looks fine  If your still having problems it may be windows related. How is your system behaving now??

my computer seems like running smoothly. but my still external hard disk gives me this windows script host error: can not find script file "H:\autorun.vbs" after i click on the removeable hard disk icon. finally, i can open the external hard disk in the normal way without any error after reformating the external hard disk. Thanks for your help. can you tell me how can this virus autorun.vbs infected my external hard disk? if i used my infected external hard disk on my friend's computer, would my friend's computer be infected by this virus?

Yes it will most likely effect his computer. When you ran AVG Anti Spyware, did you have your external drive on and checked in AVG so that it would check that drive also.

You need to enable windows to show all files and folders, instructions Here

Do a windows search on the infected drive and for this VBS.Gaggle.E. and see if anything comes up. This is a mass mailing worm. You may have to copy any important files to a CD disk and reformat the external drive.

Info here.
http://www.sarc.com/...valinstructions

Let me know if it found anything.

the virus and spyware have been found.

besides that, my friend sent me one useful file which can detect autorun file and kill it immediately without formatting my external hard disk. i want to upload this file to here, but can not find the upload or attachment button. i hope this file(556 bytes only) can help other people also.

Your log still looks fine and AVG found and removed a few things so I think your good to go.

The only thing you can upload to the forum is a HJT log or another scanned log . You can't upload a exe file, and I don't want to post anything for someone else to use until its been checked and tested by our staff. Thanks for the concern.

Troj/QQRob-B is a backdoor Trojan which gathers sensitive information, possibly recording a users keystrokes to steal passwords. It may also download and execute other files.Troj/QQRob-B also disables various anti-virus and security services.

This has been removed by AVG

IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 2.0 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  • Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.
Thanks for stopping by Tom Coyote , I'm glad I was able to help you. :D
