I desperately need your help! Swandog helped me last year with ABetterinternetnail and unfortunately I got hit by another evil Trojan - this time its Exploit-ObscuredHtml. I Quarantine it and remove it and it comes right back. I had someone step me through a scan in safe mode and it doesn't show up there!
Please help! I am posting a HJT log I ran today. Thanks!

Classy (Karen)

Hi Karen :D

Sorry for the delay in responding but we are up to our ears in logs. Your HJT log is unreadable the way you posted it, do this.

Hijackthis 1.99.1
Its important that Hijackthis is installed in its own permanent folder for backup purposes.
  • Go to where you currently have HJT installed and delete the whole folder.
  • Use the link above or the links in my signature to download HJT 1.99.1 setup to your desktop
  • Double Click on the Setup icon and by defaut it will unzip to C:\Program Files\Hijackthis

  • Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
  • Go to Edit> Select All.....Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread.
  • Please use Posted Imageand not Posted Image
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

The forum is staffed by volunteers who donate their time and expertise.

Thanks, your log is readable now

Do you have Bsafe filtering service installed????

We must disable the Real-Time Protection feature of Windows Defender for it may interfere with the fix.

To disable Real-Time Protection:
  • Go to "Tools" | "General Settings"
  • Scroll down to "Real-time protection >Options"
  • Uncheck "Turn on real-time protection (recommended)"
  • Remember to reactivate this feature when we have finished all our work.
You can re enable this when we are done.

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

You have Ewido installed, the program is outdated and Ewido has been bought by AVG, I would like you to uninstall Ewido via the Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and then download and install AVG Anti Spyware.

Download and install the 30 day trial of AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 to your desktop.
  • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
  • Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine <-- Dont forget this
  • Under Reports
  • Select Automatically generate report after every scan
  • Un-Select Only if threats were found
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 <-- Do not run the scan yet.
Boot your computer into Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut Off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly.
  • This will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to SAFEMODE
  • Then press the Enter on your Keyboard
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process:
  • Launch AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
  • AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  • Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
  • Next select the Reports icon at the top.
  • Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system
  • make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

I need to see the AVG log and a new HJT log please and let me know about Bsafe Filtering

Open AVG Anti Spyware and go into the Quarantine folder and remove it all, nothing in there that you want to keep.

The only thing I see wrong is that Bsafe Filtering seems to mess up the chain that gives you internet access.
O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'inetcntrl0007.dll' missing <--DON'T FIX THIS WITH HJT.

This will just repair the chain and will not remove that file
  • Please download LSPFix
  • Disconnect from the internet.
  • Go to where you downloaded LSPFix and run the LSPFix.exe by double clicking on it.
  • Check the I know what I'm doing box.
  • In the Keep box you should see one or more instances of inetcntrl0007.dll
  • Keep it in the Keep box...Do not move it.
  • When you are done click Finish.
LSP Tutorial <-- If you need it.

The rest of your log looks fine,, how are things running now??

Hi Ken I attempted to do what you asked, however, the file you thought would be in Keep(inetcntrl0007.dll) was actually in Remove. I moved it to Keep since there were no copies of it there at all, and clicked finish. The program stated there was nothing to update.... I will let you know how things are after I try to update my Windows Defender and run a virus scan. This is uaually what causes a huge freeze. Karen (Classy)

Karen,

This file is odd because although it looks like it belongs to Bsafe the numbers are off.

Go to this site Jotti Upload and under the browse feature, browse to this file inetcntrl0007.dll
Then click on Submit and it will give you a report, post the report in your next reply.

Hi Ken It took me a little bit to reply because I didn't know where the file was located and I had to search it before I could use the Jotti's scan to analyze it. Sorry for being slow. Here is the log from that scan. I also ran a Windows Defender scan and it found nothing. Is that program helpful at all? Bsafe recommended I install and use it but it doesn't seem to find anything. Therefore, We cannot and will not be held responsible for any damage caused by results presented by this non-profit online service. Also, we are aware of the implications of a setup like this. We are sure this whole thing is by no means scientifically correct, since this is a fully automated service (although manual correction is possible). We are aware, in spite of efforts to proactively counter these, false positives might occur, for example. We do not consider this a very big issue, so please do not e-mail us about it. This is a simple online scan service, not the university of Wichita. Scanning can take a while, since several scanners are being used, plus the fact some scanners use very high levels of (time consuming) heuristics. Scanners used are Linux versions, differences with Windows scanners may or may not occur. Another note: some scanners will only report one virus when scanning archives with multiple pieces of malware. Virus definitions are updated every hour. There is a 15Mb limit per file. That file looks like it may be ok, but sometimes there is no information on a file but it does look like it belongs to Bsafe. Every log I have work with Bsafe installed has the same 010 entry in the log but the number at the end of the file is a little different on yours. So lets just let that be for the time being and I am going to continue to look for information on it. An option is to call them if you can and ask them if that is one of there files for there program.

AVG picked up a one bad file and even though it said it cleaned it lets run this scan to make sure its gone.

For users running Windows 2000, XP or Vista

Download ComboScan to your Desktop.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on comboscan.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, a text file will open - ComboScan.txt
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of ComboScan.txt in your thread in the HijackThis Log Help Forum.
  • A folder, C:\ComboScan, will also open. In it will be another text file, Supplementary.txt.
  • Please attach Supplementary.txt to your post.
Note: some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the internet - please ensure that you allow sigcheck.exe permission to do so.

To attach a file to a new post, simply
  • Click the[Manage Attachments] button under Additional Options > Attach Files on the post composition page, and
  • copy and paste the following into the "Upload File from your Computer" box:

    C:\ComboScan\Supplementary.txt

  • Click Upload.
What ComboScan will do:
  • create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
  • clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
  • check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. ComboScan automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

I am not looking at anything out of the ordinary, you can try running this scan as I am concerned about the file that AVG found that is related to a Purity infection although I dont see anything on your log pointing to it.

If you have trouble with this program, run it in Safemode.

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall
