Run regedit again and go to the one it wouldn't let you delete. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_WINCOM32 1 - Take ownership of the key do the following: 2 - Click-on Security in the Menu 3 - Select Take Ownership 4 - Now right click on the registry key and select delete Let me know if that worked
I did as you told me and the only Security I found was the one on the left hand side of the screen in the tree under the folder called HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and I could not find the TAKE OWNERSHIP part that you wanted me to do. the only file in Security is ab(Default) REG_SZ (value not set) Matthew
Next, launch Notepad (Start>All Programs>Accessories), and copy/paste all the BOLD REGEDIT below to it. Don't forget to include REGEDIT4.
Save in: Desktop
File Name: fixme.reg
Save as Type: All files
Click: Save

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_WINCOM32]

On the desktop, doubleclick fix.reg and allow it to run. Let it merge.

It's worth a try going through that. If that doesn't work I suggest you try putting the card in another slot or buy another card.
Well I Tried what you suggested and it got rid of the entries in the registery but I still can not get on the internet. by chance would reinstalling or upgrading to windows XP fix the problem. or just add to them.

The first thing we don't know is if your ethernet card is even working or your cabling is OK.
Are there any led lights on the card?
Is one green and the other amber?
Have you checked your cables?
Have you reset the modem and/or router?
Have you tried moving the ethernet card to another slot in the PC?
Did you get any software from your ISP to install? Have you tried re-installing it?
If you have a router, did you try re-installing it with the software it came with?

Right click on My Computer > Right Click on Properties > Click on Hardware > Device Manager.
Open the + sign at the listing for Network Adaptors. Right Click on the adaptor and select un-install.

Reboot and see if Windows tells you it found new hardware. If so, either let it install it or install it with the software that came with it.
