Hello,

working on a friend's pc. They can't find the Recovery CDs. Originally, no one could log in correctly (no taskbar, no start menu). Kept getting browseui.dll error msg. Replaced dll file, ran ChkDsk, disabled obvious malware from MSConfig, also from User Startup folders, ran AVG 7.5, ran Ad-Aware, removed all SysRestore points except for most recent, ran WindowsDiskCleaner to dump temporary internet files.

right now: IE won't navigate. Internet connection works because I can get AVG & Ad-Aware updates. Internet Options missing tabs. System Restore brings up a blank screen. Attempts to create or change a User Account do nothing, cpu activity light doesn't even blink.

Hello and Welcome to the forum.

I suggest you do this:

If you download and double click on this small app, it will restore all the default search fuctions for IE.

http://www.spywarein...tools/IEFIX.reg

Save it to your desktop.

Right click on the file IEFIX.reg and select Merge.

If that doesn't work, see if you have this file:
C:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\ie.inf

Right Click on ie.inf and select install.

Let me know if that worked and we'll go from there

Hey, thanks for willing to help me out with this one. Tried IEFix.reg no results, IE still won't navigate, Tools>Internet Options & other menu commands do nothing. Found IE.inf in C:\i386 right-click>INSTALL system asks for location of other files, point to C:\i386 ”RUNDLL - Error loading IESETUP.DLL. The specified module could not be found.” Now IE gone from Start>Programs Copied i386 folder from my XPpro CD onto a SD card C:\i386\IE.inf>right-click>INSTALL system asks for location of other files, point to F:\i386 (SD card) asks to overwrite files, click NO (since target files are newer than source files) ”RUNDLL - Error loading IESETUP.DLL. The specified module could not be found.” Is the next step here to download IESETUP.DLL from internet and place in C:\i386 ?? Also notice 2 other things: SpyFalcon installed DVDrom and CDrw not recognized in "My Computer" (recognized in BIOS) "Device Manager" has exclamation marks try updating driver, 'no newer software found', uninstall, shutdown disconnect IDE startup, shutdown reconnect IDE, (oem jumpers set to Cable Select on both drives), try Master & Slave respectively startup Still not recognized in My Computer or Disk Management, Device Manager has '!'.

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. It will create a file named:
c:\rapport.txt

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Please post:
C:\rapport.txt

Running the Clean

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.

Try windows updates and get IE from there.

If that doesn't work, try FireFox.

Lets try a different browser. Click the link and download FireFox and give it a try.
http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/

Other then that, how's it running?
