Hello all,
At the end of the description of my problem I'll post my HJT log.
For about three days now, I'll get on firefox to check my email, or look something up, and I'll be getting popups that are using IE, as soon as I noticed this I ran Avast!. It's found a good 20 viruses so far, and something running in memory that it can't get rid of - win32:adware-gen. It says it has to restart, and then it says it doesn't have permission to restart. All of this after letting a friend use the puter while i was gone. The virus scan doesn't find purityscan anymore except when it does the scan at boot time. I had a folder called view22 that I deleted with killbox after searching for what it was online. I ran hijack this but I couldn't make sense of the results so I would very much appreciate help from someone who has more idea what they're doing than I do.

Thanks, HJT log follows:

Hi

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Hi, and Thanks so far, VundoFix found one that it couldn't get rid of even upon *multiple* reboots.
Including my new HJT and VundoFix logs.

[Edit: Tea Timer no longer gives me constant notices that a bho is being modified or added. I did get a few alerts that backed up to fill nearly half the screen, but I was able to blacklist them. Nothing like yesterday and its not giving me any more warnings right now. Every time I reboot the computer the warnings that Tea Timer gives me are different. I'm usually quick to disallow them, and by the time I'm finished I've forgotten the names, I can write them down or something if what they say would be helpful to you in some way.]

Hi

You are partly true (there's one trojan downloader) but we don't give up. I think after these steps most of the active infections should be gone.

By the way, where is your avast! now?

Open HijackThis, click do a system scan only and checkmark these:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {89F6D2C9-6528-4B36-8C77-74FBE7D8C8BF} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtqp.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8AAB9925-CC78-4BF5-B014-A089DD64D237} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\iifcddc.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [syswin] C:\WINDOWS\system32\v6.exe
O20 - Winlogon Notify: winmxw32 - winmxw32.dll (file missing)

Close all windows including browser and press fix checked.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once the scan is complete, Right Click inside the listbox (white box) and click add more files
  • Copy&Paste the 2 entries below into the top 2 boxes

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\qomkkjk.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\kjkkmoq.*
  • Click Add Files and Click Close Window
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.[/list]
Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
Delete if present:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\iifcddc.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\v6.exe

Empty Recycle Bin
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log
Send:

- a fresh HijackThis log
- vundofix report
- sdfix report
