I just also wanted to add some of the symptoms I'm having that are really pissing me off. 1. Internet Explorer sometimes freezes. 2. Internet Explorer has a mind of it's own. Sometimes when you click a link it won't go to the next page. Yes, I do have a cable modem and in safe mode everything works fine. 3. I am using the new Internet Explorer 7. 4. The reason why I upgraded because at one point my internet connection wasn't working properly and adware was blocking me from launching new pages. My connection would work in safe mode but not in normal mode. 5. Oddly enough sometimes my RAM drops significantly for no apparent reasons and the screen freezes. 6. I just need someone to please help me get my internet connection working properly and get this adware carp** off my computer. Thank You for your time! T.C.
Welcome to the forum.

Not much showing in your log.

You do have Viewpoint Manager on the system which is now considered spyware - I suggest you remove it.

Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
Delete this folder if found:
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint

——————-

Clean out temp files:

Download and run ATF Cleaner - hit "select all" then just uncheck "cookies" (uncheck cookies is optional - leave it checked if you want to delete all cookies) then click "empty selected" That will clear out all the temp files on the system.

——————

Please go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages > Details > Advanced
Now CHECK the box that says Turn off advanced text services

Reboot and let me know, MrC
Mr. C. Thanks for your time and your info! I have a lot to do today and will try to remove that program and also use that ATF Cleaner. I will let you know what happened! Thanks again! :D
Mr. C. I did what you told me too do. It doesn't look like anything changed. But thank you for telling me to get that Viewpoint out of my system. I will tell you that while I was removing the program… something odd occurred when I was looking for the program to remove. I went to "Control Panel" then "Add or Remove Programs" I have like 12 programs listed (I know I have more than that…) there was a LONG GAP in between programs. I scrolled down the list and there were at least 6 pages of blank programs. I thought that was really weird. That's never happened before. Could that be caused by adware? After it named all the A programs in alphabetical order… it went to blank white pages probably about 6-7 pages worth… then finally had the B programs to Z programs. The internet seems like it's trying to go to the pages quickly… but something is holding it up. Sometimes my screen blinks as well… like some adware program is hanging it up? Other than that…. I don't know what else to do? Appreciate your time! T.C.
Lets do this………..

Go to Start > Run (type) services.msc > OK
Scroll down to DNS Client, Right-click and select: Properties
Click the drop-down arrow for "Startup type"
Select: Manual, click Apply/Ok and restart.
(The default is auto - you can always change it back)

———————

I see you have AVG-AS on your system - lets check for updates and run the program - also run these three programs….

1. Download combofix.exe from one of the links below:

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe
http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/combofix.exe

2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

———————–

Next…

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log
————————

Last…..

Please download SUPERAntiSpyware Home Edition (free)

Install it and double-click the icon on your desktop to run it.
It will ask if you want to update the program definitions, click "Yes",
Let it through your firewall!
Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the "Preferences" button.
Click the "Scanning Control" tab.
Under "Scanner Options" make sure the following are checked:
1>> Close browsers before scanning
2>> Scan for tracking cookies
3>> Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
4>> Ignore System Restore/Volume Information on ME and XP
5>> Please leave the others unchecked.
6>> Click the Close button to leave the control center screen.

On the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click "Scan your
computer".
On the left check "C:\Fixed Drive".
On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose "Perform Complete Scan".
Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
After the scan is complete a summary box will appear. Click "OK".
Make sure everything in the white box has a check next to it, then click "Next".
It will quarantine what it found and if it asks if you want to reboot, click
"Yes".

To retrieve the removal information - please do the following:
1>> After reboot, double-click the "SUPERAntispyware icon" on your desktop.
2>> Click "Preferences". Click the "Statistics/Logs tab".
3>> Under "Scanner Logs", double-click "SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log".
4>> It will open in your default text editor (such as Notepad/Wordpad).
5>> Please highlight everything , then right-click and choose copy.
6>> Click close and close again to exit the program.

Now please paste the "removal information" along with a fresh "HijackThis log", the log from ComboFix, SD Fix and AVG-AS in your reply. If it's a large log, you may need several replies to post it.

I'm really sorry about starting a new topic… I thought that's what Mr. C. requested?

Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

I'm sorry I read it wrong. I will get a new HiJack Post. Sorry about the mistake.
Ok.. so I powered down my computer last night and woke up today on Thursday… powered on the computer and did some banking online. I clicked the log in button and the screen went to a blank white and said internet not responding… Something to that effect.

I tried to log into my hotmail.com account and when I hit the enter button it said… Internet Not Responding. I went to pay a Capital One credit card… tried to log in and when I hit the enter button it said Internet Not Responding.

I couldn't do anything on the internet that involved a password. All the internet sites were working properly and very quickly… but if it required a log in name I couldn't use em.

I called my one friend who knows a little about computers and he said… your cookies are ok… everything seems ok. It baffled him as well. He said let's try this… restart in Safe mode with a networking connections… I said ok. So the pages that I couldn't log into… I now could log into with ease. He said something is screwing up your explorer. He said.. try scanning your system with Norton one more time. I did that and even though it said no threats or spyware was located… I was able to log into accounts under normal mode.

What is causing this? Ever since I downloaded a song at Limewire.com about 5 months ago… I've had this probelm ever since. Apparently Norton caught this spyware or trojan??? It was called a "downloader" it seems to repeat itself in memory… or on a start up. Screws up my entire INTERNET EXPLORER. It says it's gone… but no other adware program is picking it up? Any other ideas? Here is my current HIJACK log as of today:

Sorry Mr. C. that it took me so long to answer your questions. I was really getting frustrated with this dayam PC I had to take a break. Here is the info I gathered… Hope it helps you out!

Do you know what these are?

C:\Tim\Text\Wager\~WRL0003.tmp
C:\Tim\Text\Wager\~WRL0005.tmp
C:\Tim\Text\Wager\~WRL0498.tmp
C:\Tim\Text\Wager\~WRL0730.tmp

Yes. The Tim\Text\Wager are Microsoft Word text files that I made a while ago. It’s just text information on it. I don’t know why they are present on that list?

Did the problem happen with Internet Explorer 6? You have Internet Explorer v7.00 installed now.

The problem happened while I had Internet Explorer 6. My computer locked me out one day when I powered up the computer. Apparently there was adware or some malicious files in the computer’s start up memory. I figured if I downloaded Explorer 7 it would of fixed the problem. By the way.. I hate Internet Explorer 7. Don’t upgrade!!

I can’t seem to find that file anywhere… I searched everywhere and couldn’t find it.

Thank you for your time Mr. C.
I have also been getting this error message when typing or using a JAVA device on a few webpages. I don't understand what this means?

A Runtime Error has occurred.
Do you wish to debug?

Line: 402
Error: Object Expected

Should I debug it? How would I fix it?
