It appears you already have AVG anti-spyware but I'm including the setup instructions here anyway.

Download AVG Anti-Spyware from Here and save that file to your
desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program
  • Once you have downloaded AVG anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop
and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition
    files.
  • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "
    Update now
    " link.
    • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a
progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of
the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then
    select "Delete".
  • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close AVG Anti-Spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.

[external image: Posted Image]

The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Empty the Recycle Bin by right-clicking the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop, and then clicking Empty Recycle Bin.
______________________________

  • Lauch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab
then click on "Complete System Scan".
  • AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little
    time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all
    actions
    "
  • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the
screen and save it as a text file on your Desktop (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).

______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #3 - Delete Trusted zone by typing 3 and press Enter
Answer Yes to the question "Restore Trusted Zone ?" by typing
Y and hit Enter.

OK Abancay,

Looks like we got the Smitfraud infection but we still have that Trojan. Let's go at this the old fashion way.

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on this:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gwiz] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntsystem.exe

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

1) Please download the Killbox.
Save it to the desktop and run it.

2) Select Delete on Reboot, and then click the All Files button. That button should now flash on and off with a green color.

3) Copy the file names in bold below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy)::

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntsystem.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.dll

4) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.

5) Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually. After rebooting, open up Killbox again. Click File -> Logs -> Actions History Log
Post this log in your next reply.
Please also try to run HJT in normal mode and post a log. Safe mode again if that's not possible. I'm still not sure if your problems with HJT are related to the infections or not.

Hi Abancay,

It appears we were able to remove the trojan. Are you still receiving any errors or warnings?

Also, have you tried running HJT with your McAfee Anti-Virus disabled? McAfee is known to interfere with HJT.

Try this also:

Click Start–>Run…
Type in sfc /scannow. It may prompt you to insert your XP CD. If this doesn't work let me know.

Dave
I managed to run HJT in normal mode after I disabled McAfee

when i ran 'sfc /scannow' all that happened was a 'window file protection' box came up It said 'Please wait while windows verifies that all protected Windows Files are intact and in their original verisons' This took some time, and when it finished nothing happened, the window simply closed itself.
I don't seem to be getting any error messages about viruses when I startup anymore which is a good sign. I am still getting the following error message: 'This application has failed to start because OdiAPI.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem' The title of the error message is 'DevDtct2.exe - Unable to Locate Component' I thought this might be something to do with the trojan, but it might be to do with something that was deleted when I performed one of the many scans I ran. Any thoughts on this? How is it looking?
I've been getting a few pop-ups from McAfee VirusScan The info from McAfee is: File: A0004659.exe Virus name: W32/Generic.worn!p2p File path: C:\System Volume Information\_restore{202550A8-7A33-4BCA-9586-051D24DDBF8F}RP21 Status: Deleted Although it says it's deleted there is obviously still something on the system as I keep getting similar messages
Hi Abancay,

Great, I'll take a look through your complete HJT log now. That infection

File path: C:\System Volume Information\_restore{202550A8-7A33-4BCA-9586-051D24DDBF8F}RP21

is in a restore point which we can clean up when the fix is complete.

I'll have a look through your log a little later this afternoon when I get off work.

Regards,
Dave
Hi Abancay,

Doesn't look too bad from here. There are a couple of items in your log that would be considered optional fixes. The first is for Bearshare. See this link for more information:

http://p2p.malwareremoval.com/details.html#bear

The second is for Poker.com. If you are not using this site anymore than that item can be fixed.

If you decide to remove one or either please do the following (first line for Bearshare and second for Poker.com):

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = http://search.bearshare.com/sidebar.html?src=ssb
O9 - Extra button: Poker.com - {6FDD5236-C9F0-49ef-935D-385F5E21991A} - C:\Program Files\Poker.com\Poker.exe (file missing) (HKCU)

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

If you decided to remove the Poker.com then also use Windows Explorer to delete the folder if present.

C:\Program Files\Poker.com<–Folder

Let's do some cleanup with ATF Cleaner:
Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.

Under Main select the following:
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

I would also like to see a log from this tool if possible:
Please Click Here a to download Silent Runners.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • Click Yes when it asks you if you would like to skip the supplementary search.
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click the new text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.
*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.
