Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 1:52:44 PM, on 2/10/2007 Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2900.2180) :wavey: The last thing I installed was a beta for Norton 360 and for some reason it requested an "installer" be used to install it - well that's when eveything appears to go "hang-wire" i'm in safe mode w/networking and now everything hangs and does not respond - luckily i still have the internet - thanks in advance for your help
Lets try system Restore then: 1. Click Start. 2. Point to All Programs. 3. Point to Accessories. 4. Point to System Tools. 5. Click System Restore. 6. Follow the instructions on the wizard. See if you can find a date the the PC worked.
Message I received - can't find system tools under Accessories but when I clicked System Restore this is what I received: System Restore You do not have sufficient security privileges to restore your system. Please contact your administrator, or logout and log in again as an administrator and try again…even though this login i'm on does have adminstrator priviledges - should I come back in as administrator? Remember, I'm in safe mode with networking? thanks
Yes, login as administrator.
If you never set a password for administrator you need to leave it blank.

Note:
I would suggest you create a password for the administrator account, but make SURE it's one you won't forget.
qk question can i deleted directory(s) under C:\program files\common files ? what overall purpose does this directory serve? these files are not interdependent on other applications right? i see a directory called "symantec shared" thanks - i guess what i'm asking is that these files can't be the parent to other applications right?
Good question. I've never paid any attention to those. Maybe one of the OCP techs will have the answer. I wouldn't delete anything from there at this point.
Also in that directory is a directory called Wise Installation Wizard I believe it's the required installer for that blasted Norton 360 -
