This is a great site and thanks in advance. My task manager shuts down. Also, when I run "command" it shuts down as soon as it opens dos prompt, but if I run "CMD", I can open a dos prompt.

Here is my log..

I see several files running on your system that are known trojans and virii. Make sure your virus definitions are up to date, and run a full system scan. Then, I would suggest an online virus scan from Trend-Mirco (use the link in my signature). It's free and works very well. I used it on my daughters PC because her virus software was outdated. It found a few trojans and some spyware. After completing the online scan, reboot and post a new Hijack This! log file into this thread, and we'll deal with problems left over. :)
Oh finally !!! I can see my task manager. Thanks for your advice. :)
Here is the latest report

Greatly appreciate your help !!

I still see several malicious programs running that need gotten rid of. I'm at work right now, and away from most of my "helping" tools. If no one suggests anything, I'll look this thread up this evening and make more recommendations.
Okie dokie…

Please boot in "safe" mode, and have Hijack This! fix these entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…rch/search.html

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…rch/search.html

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…://my.yahoo.com

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IPInSightLAN 01] "C:\Program Files\Visual Networks\Visual IP InSight\SBC\IPClient.exe" -l

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Micosoft Startup] syscall.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft] C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\gwrbf.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Auto Started] winsME.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows NNT] C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\jjkdqs.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VidiaDrivers] C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\kgvgws.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Vidsdriver] C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\fdscvsa.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Mcsoft] gfeqzvq.exe

Then boot in normal mode, and post a fresh log. :)
After consulting with our experts, we'd like for you to do something "special" with one of your files to see if it contains a virus, worm, or trojan.

Please go to this link:

http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus.html

And submit this file from your PC:

qossvc.exe

You'll have to use Windows explorer to find it. I can't tell from your log file which folder the file is in. Most likely, it will be residing in one of these two folders:
C:\WINNT
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32

This will let us know definitively how we should treat this file. :)
OK. for some reason I can't "edit" my post, so I just have to "add" on.

This entry is "OK" to leave.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1

Do not have Hijack This! "fix" it.

Sorry for the mixup. :)
Here is the latest. I am just so amazed at this site. Its awesome. Thanks a lot for helping me out.

Also, I couldn't find qossvc.exe on my PC.

Hmmm…. you had one entry that reappeared.

Boot in "safe" mode.

Close all programs and windows except Hijack This!

Have Hijack This! fix this entry:

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Auto Started] winsME.exe

Then find and delete this file (using Windows explorer):

winsME.exe

You may need to "show hidden files" (see the link in my signature).

Please see if you can find the other file "qossvc.exe" by including "hidden" files in the serch as well. If you can find it, submit it to that web site I suggested before.

Just out of curiosity….

It looks as if your browser is no longer "hijacked".

Is IE working "ok" for you, or do you still have problems with it?

And is the rest of your computer functioning "ok" as well?
I am at work right now. Will definitely try out the stuff you told me from home. IE is working fine as of now. I never had any major probs with IE except that the I would lose my connection, I had to reboot my PC or the DSL modem. The biggest problem I had was that Task Manager would shut down and now it doesn't. I also was not able to load any new application since the virus would kill the last screen. Will try that installing some new applications today. I haven't tried running any other application on my PC, will do so and let you know when I post my log tonight. Thanks
After fixing winsME.exe, I couldn't find it in the system(including all hidden files). I also couldn't find qossvc.exe

Here is the log. Thanks

Your log looks good to go.

I don't see any worm, trojans, virii, or hijacks.

That file "qossvc.exe" is a legitimate M$ task (provided it's in the right folder). I don't remember exactly right now what it does (and it may be something running that you might not need).

However, leave it alone for now.

Unless you are still having problems, I'd say all is well!!! :)
Update:

The file "qossvc.exe" (if it's legit) has something to do with "Quality of Service Packets" on networks.

Another thing has arisen with this file:

C:\WINNT\system32\wuauserv.exe

The jury is still out on whether it's legit or malicious.

We'd like for you to scan it with the antivirus software resident on your PC. And also to use the online virus scan (use the link in my signature).

Then post what the 2 virus scans revealed.

Sorry about the confusion. I had done some searches about that file, and thought it was legit. Later, I found out most of the search results I looked at were actually talking about a DLL file

Added in edit:

How about going to this link:

http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus.html

And submit this file from your PC:

C:\WINNT\system32\wuauserv.exe

Let it scan for viruses as well. :)
Kaspersky Anti-Virus has detected a virus in the file you have submitted. We suggest that you consider: Reading about the virus/viruses in our Virus Encyclopedia Downloading a trial version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus Purchasing a copy of Kaspersky Anti-Virus in our E-Store Purchasing Kaspersky Anti-Virus from a certified partner Current object: wuauserv.exe wuauserv.exe Packed: PE_Patch wuauserv.exe Packed: TeLock wuauserv.exe Infected: Backdoor.SkSocket.109 Statistics: Known viruses: 88749 Updated: 13.05.2004 File size (Kb): 31 Scan time: 00:00:01 Speed (Kb/sec): 32 Virus bodies: 1 Archives: 0 Packed: 1 Folders: 0 Files: 1 Suspicious: 0 Warnings: 0 Also, I have PC cillin antivirus and ran it over C:\winnt and it came up with a new virus that it quarantined.. bkdr_dkangel.25 in c:\winnt\system32\ieconfig.exe. Thanks
KEWLIO!!!!

We kinda figured that file was a "baddie". But we'd rather be cautious than tell you to do something that could harm your computer.

Find and delete that file:

C:\WINNT\system32\wuauserv.exe

If it's still on your system.

If it's "active" you'll have to startup the task manager, and "end process" before your system will let you dispose of it.

To be safe, please reboot (after killing the above mentioned file) and post another log file. Sometimes those trojans can spawn before they die…. ;)
