Hi judewynn, My name is mschroe919 and I am going to read your log. I would like to help you So if you would….Please be patient and I will be back as soon as possible. please post back, to let me know your PC is behaving. I will be looking for your post back. mschroe919
every time irun norton, it tells me i have a virus. I'll give it the ok to fix it, it will tell me it did then tell me to reboot. When I reboot, it tells me again that there s a virus on the computer. It seems that about once a week a new virus shows up on norton. i can spend all day just reboting my computer. If I dont reboot a few times a day the coputer slows down so much that i cannot accomplish anything. After I rebot after "cleaning" the virus, if i run internet explorer an ad pops up saying that norton isnt working, my computer is compromised. The ad pops up from WinnFixer. Hope this info helps. I have always had norton installed, so i'm not sure how this happened, but it did.
Hi judewynn,
I am back and to start you have the
VUNDO[aka Virtuemonde Trojan]
Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.
Good luck mschroe919

Ok, so i did what u wanted me to do, but for some reason when i tried to run the panda actice scan it would download what it needed to and show me the options for scans, but wouldnt let me do any of them. there was an active x control pop up ( a coupon for panda software) but even allowing the pop up didnt let me run the scan. I dont know why. but here's the hijack this log again anyway.

Hi judewynn
Sorry about the delay in getting back, got tied up with the grand kids.
I would like to read your new log again and while I am doing that please try
one of these or two of these free on line scans.

Housecall<<
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Panda ActiveScan<<
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/acti…n_principal.htm

I would like to see if you can try the Panda one again. I said it was on the top
right side of the page. well its in the middle or bottom. When you click on it it
will ask for a e mail address. This is okay.

Also I see you have the Ewido security on your PC. Is it the free trial or full paid ver?
If free trial and been on your PC for a while it won't update. So I wouldn't use it. If it is
the paid version follow these instructions:

1. Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting
your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears.

Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or
programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
2. Lauch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
3. Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab
then click on "Complete System Scan".
4. ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little
time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
5. If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all
actions"

6. Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
7. Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the
screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where
you saved that file, this is important).

8. Close ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the
results of the ewido report scan.

NEXT:
Youi may have these programs if you do check and make sure updated.
Run them in this order:
Let’s check for Malware/Spyware on your computer which is best dealt with by spyware-removal programs used one after the other.

Spybot: Search and Destroy:

1.Download 'Spybot: Search And Destroy'.Get it here:http://projects.securitywonks.net/projects/download.php?file=2
2. Install it according to the instructions in 'How To Setup Spybot SD and Ad-Aware SE'. Get it here:http://www.tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php
3. Next, 'Search for Updates' as the definitions are not likely to be up-to-date.
4. Close ALL windows except Spybot SD
5. Click the "Check for Problems" button
6. Click 'Fix Selected Problems' and fix only the RED items.
7. REBOOT to finish removing what Spybot SD found and clear memory

Ad-Aware SE by Lavasoft:

1. Download 'Ad-Aware SE'. Get it here:
http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910…&tag=button
2. Install according to the instructions in "How To Setup Spybot SD and Ad-Aware SE" Get it here:
http://www.tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php
3. Next, 'Check for Updates' by clicking on the 'world globe' second from the right at the top of your Ad-Aware SE window.
4. Install the updates.
5. Close ALL windows except Ad-Aware SE
6. Click on 'Start' and choose 'full scan' for a full scan.
7. Quarantine anything that it finds and SAVE the log file.
8.REBOOT to finish removing what Ad-Aware SE found and clear memory.

Please let me know if anything can not be cleaned by these utilities.

Once in regular mode open HJT and ppost another log along with the on line scan logs.

If any questions feel free to ask.
Good luck mschroe919
sorry, had to go out town for the weekend for work. I'm currently trying to run the housecall scan. I tried the panda one again, still wont run. tty soon….
ok, so unfortunately, i couldnt run the new scan u asked me to either. When i tried to run it, it never loaded. It would load about half way (according to the little green bar at the bottom) then stop, no matter how long i wait. ewido is only a trial version, so i didnt run it. I did but the spy-bot and the adaware scans. heres the hijack this log. sorry for being difficult.

Hi judewynn,
I would like to get to te bottom of why you
can't do a on line scan.
I'd start by checking your IE security settings.
There is a good guide for this here:
http://surfthenetsafely.com/ieseczone5.htm
(Notice when on theis page on the top there is
a tutorial you can click on and see exactly how
to do this.
After checking and reseting these try the scans
again. Also do you have a firewall open, I don't see
any signs of one. If your using the windows firewall,
check the settings as here:
The Windows Firewall settings are found by going to Start- Control Panel and choosing the Windows Firewall icon. The screen below is the first one shown.
We suggest using the Windows Firewall and setting it to the On setting shown below.
If you choose "Don't allow exceptions" you will not be able to use DCOM or do any remote OPC Connections. We suggest leaving this unchecked.
If you choose Off you are turning of the firewall and you can skip the part of the DCOM configuration. This is NOT RECOMMENDED except for testing purposes or for internal networks which you know you have otherwise secured from attack. You assume responsibility if you turn off the Windows Firewall.

Hi Hi judewynn,
Some things to do here:
FIRST:
If you still have ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Lets run it again,if you don't have get it here:
http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1

This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NEXT:
delete the VirtumundoBeGone.exe folder located: C:\Documents and Settings\Mom\Desktop
You may or may not find these but we must try,
Lets start with the add/remove programs and see if we have any signs of these if you do remove:
BargainBuddy
Elite tool bar
NEXT:
go to windows explorer and see if any of these are there delet the folders in RED
C:\WINNT\EliteToolBar\xml\images\casino-ico.bmp
C:\WINNT\EliteToolBar\xml\images\casino.bmp
C:\WINNT\EliteToolBar\xml\images\dating-ico.bmp
C:\WINNT\EliteToolBar\xml\images\dating.bmp
C:\WINNT\EliteToolBar\xml\images\drugs-ico.bmp
C:\WINNT\EliteToolBar\xml\images\drugs.bmp
C:\WINNT\EliteToolBar\xml\images\fav-ico.bmp
C:\WINNT\EliteToolBar\xml\images\fav.bmp
C:\WINNT\EliteToolBar\xml\images\virus.bmp
If BargainBuddy was not found in add/remove lets do a search for it using the window search engine.
Here is how :
Click on start, then click on files and folders, type in BargainBuddy and click search.
if found delte or uninstall it.
Well lets try one more great on line scan, FREE:
Please go here
http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml
and do a online scan
When you get to the site the start scan is at the bottom of page
make sure you follow instruction, like downloading.
Let me know what is found.

After scan, reboot and post a new HijackThis log

Also let me know how the computer is running now.
good luck mschroe919
i ran all the stuff u wanted, and i did get the online scan to work and it said it removed the problems (126 of them i think) but when i clicked the link to see the report, ig to the "internet explorer has experienced an error and must close" box before i got the list. the computer seems to be running fine now, no popups and norton quit saying there were viruses constantly. infact, it hasnt picked up anything. heres the new hijack this log:
