PLEASE HELP! IT IS JUST MULTIPLYING ITSELF!

My computer first became slower and than I had a problems to turn it off. Once notification window popped up telling me thst can not close because of HPQTRA08.EXE.-014253AB.pf I started to read about and it looked bad, tah I find your site, red some stuff and here I am. I have 4 different spy ware programs spy sweeper, deffender, ad-aware SE professional, and one with PC-Cillin, non of them say anything wrong, I downloaded Kaspersy and it did not find anything neither. At the evening that day I had already 2 of this "viruses?" the new one is HPZIPM12.exe-02312CF9.pf and today it has third one HPZENGO10.exe-ICF7B244.pf
I would appreciate if somebody can tell me how to remove this stuff from my computer. PLEASE! :(

Let's clean the files out of the prefetch along with the others.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser
  • Click Firefox at the top and choose:Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click
  • No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser
  • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE:If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Let's update your Java.
Updating Java
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.0.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.
Please go ahead now and run your scans and let me know if the files show up. The files you mentioned ended with pf which leads me to believe were hiding in your Prefetch folder.

Please post (reply) with another hijackthis log and let me know if the files show up.

Hello Susan, If you do have anymore suggestions on how to solve this problem I will greatly appreciate it. Its still hiding in the prefetch folder but no spyware scans detect it. Thanks again. Doug

Okay, got my internet connection back! Please explain. No scans will detect the files but you know that the files are still present in the Prefetch folder. Do you browse to the Prefetch folder and see them? What are the files? What scans did you run this time? What other problems if any are you experiencing?

Hi, The file is HPQTRA08.EXE.014253AB.pf and yes I know its still in the Prefetch folder because I see it there when I browse the folder. I have tryed 3 different spyware scans 1) Spy sweeper 2) Ad-aware SE 3) Trend and none of them detect the file. I am having the same problem as before. Sometimes I cant shut my computer down and a notification pops up saying its because of this file above. Also my computer is running much slower. Thanks again. Doug

I am assuming that the complete file path is C:\Windows\Prefetch\HPQTRA08.EXE.014253AB.pf

Please show all files for your system.
You will need to reverse this process when all steps are done.


Submit File to Jotti
Please click on Jotti
Use the "Browse" button and locate the following file on your computer:
C:\Windows\Prefetch\HPQTRA08.EXE.014253AB.pf
Click the "Submit" button.
Please copy and post (reply) with the results

If Jotti's service load is too high, you can use the following scanner instead:

Please also check the properties of those files (right-click and select properties from the popupmenu). Look if you can find some company information, etc.

Navigate to C:\Windows\Prefetch to delete the items in the Prefetch folder (but not the Prefetch folder itself)
Click Edit, click Select All, press the DELETE key, and then click Yes to confirm that you want to send all the items to the Recycle Bin.


Please post (reply) with the results from Jotti and let me know if you were able to delete all the files within the Prefetch folder.

I was trying to delete this file/files before but in results it disappear for while and than i got 2 of them or 3 or they diappear and after reboot there was one again.
In addition (as you will see from Jotti) whenI was running Kaspersky I saw ithis file in Kaspersky log but it said there is no problem.

I had no problems to delete everything from PERFECH FOLDER (there was like 121 files in there) but all of this is in recycle bin now, should i empty the bin?

Bay the way could you please tell me what it really is? is it true, as I read that I should not use my online banking?

Hi Susan, Yes we have an Hp all in one but that file is in the program folder not the windows folder. We did a google search on the file which lead us to believe its not a legitimate hp file. We also read about this on the hijackthis website. Also sometimes I cant shut down my computer and a pop up window says its because of this file. Please tell me if its ok to empty my recycle bin with all the prefetch files in it ? Thanks Doug

He does not have current Microsoft updates installed. You notice the SP1 and not the SP2. His system is infected (hijackthis entries indicate this) and vulnerable. This log does not relate to yours.

Bobbi Flekman addressed other issues with this log. He did have victim run ATF cleaner which would clean files out of the Prefetch folder. Bobbi Flekman is a very respected malware fighter.
