Hello, I seemed to have picked up this nasty Video ActiveX Object from somewhere on the internet and need help removing it. I found instructions and copied them to notepad to remove this thing, but it said to have logs scanned by you just to make sure and all that, so here they are.

(side note)
I do have ewido and AVG anitvirus on my system currently. Just need to know when to use 'em.

Ok, I followed the instructions on this page and it got rid of video Active X object and a bunch of other mal/spyware with it. but here's the new log file for HJT and the ewido log along with it.

AVG did detect a virus in c:/windows/svchost.exe but it won't delete it just quarintine it. i'd appreciate a hand with that bugger if possible.

If it exists, delete this folder - C:\DOCUME~1\MITCHE~1\APPLIC~1\EGGSSH~1

* The tilde(~) in either a file or folder name indicates that this name is longer than six characters and these have been replaced by the tilde for brevity. E.G. C:\PROGRA~1 = C:\Program Files
The first file, or folder, that uses these particular six letters gets the suffix ~1, the next ~2 and so on.

Svchost.exe should be in the windows/system32 folder, so I think your anti-virus has spotted a wrong 'un.
Navigate to c:/windows/svchost.exe, right click it and select Properties - the file should be marked as "Microsoft copyright" under the Versions tab. Compare this one with c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe.
You should just be able to right click the nasty one and select Delete and that should be that.

As long as the above goes OK, I want you to run your PC as normal for a few days. When you are happy that everything is fine, do the following:

Update your anti-virus program,
Disable System Restore,
Boot into Safe Mode,
Scan your computer for viruses.
When you get the all clear, reboot into Normal Mode.
Re-enable System Restore,
Create a Restore Point.
This will give a clean Restore Point should you need it in the future.
A tutorial for System Restore is available here.

The reason for waiting is that if removing the malware has caused a problem, which it occasionally does, you can put your PC back to how it was before the fix. This will re-install the malware, but an infected PC is better than an expensive paperweight!

Some bedtime reading: This is a very good tutorial about keeping your computer safe and secure on the internet.
