I get the following Windows error every time I start my XP PC:

"There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive"

I have ran a hijackthis log and here is the output. Please help.

Also, can you please let me know which startup services I can stop at startup so that my PC start quicker.

cheers

Hi,

Sorry to hear of the error message you are getting on startup.

You may be able to fix this by going to this Microsoft site and following the directions given.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330137.

We cannot analyse your HJT log here on this forum, but if you go here:

http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?showforum=27

A trained and experienced malware removal expert will give you specific advice and instructions if any undesirable elements are found and need to be removed.

Please be sure to read the directions on that forum before posting there, and to ensure that a backup can be made, please run HJT from a permanent directory/folder (not from a temp or Zip) and that if you have disabled any startup items, perhaps using msconfig, you enable them before running the scan. Thanks.

They would also appreciate it if you make sure that when you post your log wordwrap is "off" as this makes it so much easier to read and analyse.

When it comes to the start up services, you are absolutely right, too many will slow down your machine, but the dilemma is, if you stop the wrong ones you risk bad problems arising.

Rather than try and provide a list its probably best for you to go here:

http://www.5starsupport.com/info/xpstartup.htm

This will give you a good start and provide information on what the services actually do.

A good suggestion is to only disable one service at a time, so if your machine crashes at least you will be able to identify the culprit.

Before you start it would be wise to make sure that your back ups are all 100% (including drivers, registry and all important data) and if you are really wise you will have a disc image so in the event of really severe problems that cannot be overcome by the usual means, at least you will have an "insurance" and be able to restore your hard drive from your disc image. (The System Restore facility under Windows XP is a useful feature but please do not rely upon it too much)

Good luck and I hope you manage to speed up your machine.
Regards
