still cant download hjt? since you have superantispyware we can use that as a starting point.
first update it, then do a scan. after its all finished bring up the main menu and look under the statistics/logs tab chose the last log from the list by date and click view log. the log will open in notepad, call it something and save it to your desktop. please post the saved log in next reply. if there are alot of "tracking cookies" you can edit them out to keep it short.
do you have any problems updating norton?
try one of these for hjt:

hi Fexdavid,
using explorer drill down to this:
C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
right click on HOST and chose open with… pick notepad.
your host file will open up in notepad so you can read it. let me know if you see anything like this:
127.0.0.1 ewdio.com
127.0.0.1 macafee .com
127.0.0.1 f-secure .com
just trying to see if entries in your host file are causing the download problems.

hi Fexdavid,
ok good you managed to get hjt. at first glance i dont see anything as far as malware goes in the hjt log.
did norton come installed on your computer?
Shelf life,
No. I bought and installed it.
i think you may have tried a online scan, but it wouldnt work? try one of these links:
BitDefender Free Online Virus Scan:
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php
check AutoClean under Scan Options.
f-secure:
http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml
eTrust:
eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx
Housecall at TrendMicro:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
check Auto Clean.
shelf life
None of the 4 will download
you sure its not something in norton blocking it, like a activeX blocker or something? you had problems with other links also.
sorry for the delay.
i couldnt tell you, iam not familiar with nortons utilites. i believe there is a activeX warning thats built into IE 7.0 and yes i think you are correct a pop -up would appear if a website was trying to install a activex component.wouldn't the ad blocker alert show up

shelf life,
Well, it's working now and I'm not having the troubles and interuptions that I indicated in my origional post. Obviously you have done something right. So, thankyou.
Regards,

good. glad to help. happy safe surfing. for your reference:
Be careful of what you download, and where you download it from. Many programs come bundled with extra software. You may be installing more than you think. Learn more about the program, Does it come bundled with other "3rd party" programs? If you search hard enough you can always find a "clean" alternative to any software DO YOU TRUST THE SOURCE? Check this database:Spyware Guide or this: Library before installing free/shareware.
Make sure you keep your Windows OS/Browser current by visiting Windows update
occasionaly to download and install any critical updates and service packs. These patch flaws/bugs that can be exploited.
Adjust your browser settings: Change your(active x) settings in IE. With IE open go to tools, internet options, security tab. Click on the internet globe, then custom level. Set the first option "download signed active x controls" to prompt, the next two to disable. Read more:
Working with Internet Explorer 6 SecurityUse XP with SP2, consider using the new IE 7.0
Many exploits are directed at Internet Explorer, you dont have to use it. Try a different browser. You can have and use more than one browser on your computer.
Like Firefox,
Install a Firewall:A firewall will help to control what comes in from the internet and what leaves your computer to the internet. Zone Alarm is a free and easy to use firewall, that will provide in and outbound protection. Xp's built in firewall isnt as robust as third part firewalls. Zone Alarm is one of the easiest to use "out of the box" others have learning curves. I put them in what I believe is ease of use. Learn how to use it and what window components need internet access. "Allow all" wont do much good if you have a trojan on your computer.

Tiny Firewall 2005 The last version
OutPost

Jetico Personal Firewall
Outlook Express with the default settings is not secure. It will run scripts, download images etc, just like a browser, but this was the old Outlook Express. Service Pack 2 has made huge improvements to Outlook, but just like with Internet Explorer, you dont have to use it.
try Pegasus E-Mail.
Make sure you have and keep updated Antivirus software
Free for home users:
avast! 4 Home Edition Download
AVG free version 7.0
AntiVir Personal Edition
Clam Win
Download one or two of these, install and update before using:(if these are constantly finding malware, then you need to make changes to your browser and or your habits)
SuperAntiSpyware
CounterSpy
Spybot Search and destroy
Ad-Aware SE Personal edition
Microsoft Windows Defender
