Hello Jim and welcome to the forums here at Tom Coyote.

Appears you were able to uninstall Weatherbug, correct? To get rid of it's partner in crime please do the following:

Go to Add or Remove Programs and uninstall the following if present.
Click Start > Control Panel > Double Click Add or Remove Programs:

MyWebSearch
MySearch
*Anything related to the search bar or WeatherBug*

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {8EAB99C9-F9EC-4b64-A4BA-D9BCAE8779C2} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {9522B3FB-7A2B-4646-8AF6-36E7F593073C} (cpbrkpie Control) - http://a19.g.akamai.net/7/19/7125/4056/ftp…02/cpbrkpie.cab

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.

Under Main select the following:
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

I also have one major observation:
There appears to be two Anti-Virus programs running real time protection, Norton and NOD32. This can cause many issues including system slow down, conflicts, ect…
You can keep both installed but just use one for real-time scanning and disable the other. The disabled program can still be used for one-time scans.

In general, you never want to run 2 Anti-Virus or Firewall programs at the same time. Other types of Spyware protection such as Spybot, SpywareBlaster, ect… are usually OK (and recommended) to have multiple programs running for layered protection.

Reboot now if you haven't already, post a fresh HJT log, and let me know how things are running now.

Regards,
Dave
Thank you so much for your reply and help. You guys are awesome and a great asset to computer problem morons like me . The MyWebSearch window is still on my browser just to the right of my address window. I also turned off my norton antivirus so I'm only using the nod 32. I did as you instructed and here is my new logfile results :

Hi Jim,

Did you (or your son) re-install the Weather program? It appears to be back. This was not in your last log.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Weather] C:\PROGRA~1\AWS\WEATHE~1\Weather.exe 1

If you would like to remove it then please do the following:

Go to Add or Remove Programs and uninstall the following if present.
Click Start > Control Panel > Double Click Add or Remove Programs:

WeatherBug or anything related to this Weather Program

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on this:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Weather] C:\PROGRA~1\AWS\WEATHE~1\Weather.exe 1

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

Using Windows Explorer delete the following folder:

C:\Program Files\AWS

Reboot and post a new HJT log for review and let me know how that worked. I also still see 2 AV programs running real-time. Are you sure you disabled one?

Dave
Thanks again for your help. I did as instructed and turned off the norton av, but am still running other parts of norton systemworks. I could not find the file you mentioned called :
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Weather] C:\PROGRA~1\AWS\WEATHE~1\Weather.exe 1.

Hi Jim,

could not find the file you mentioned called :
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Weather] C:\PROGRA~1\AWS\WEATHE~1\Weather.exe 1.
Here is my latest logfile

Yes, not in your HJT log anymore. Did you find and uninstall the program in Add or Remove Programs?

Is the toolbar still there?

Dave
Let's use HJT to create a list of your currently installed programs.1. Open HijackThis and click on the Config… button in the "Other stuff" section (lower right hand corner).
2. Click on the Misc Tools button.
3. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager… button.
4. Click on the Save list… button.
5. Save the file uninstall_list.txt to a convenient location. This should open Notepad with the list.
6. Please Copy and Paste the list into your next reply.

Hi Jim, Hmm…I noticed you are running Firefox. Is the toolbar in your Internet Explorer browser? Or in your Firefox browser? Or both? Thanks and sorry for the little delay in getting back to you. Dave
Hi Jim,

I'm a bit stumped here as to why that still shows so I've asked some experts to take a look in on this. In the meantime, do you use PartyPoker.net? I'm not aware if they are carrying Malware now or not but if it's not used it certainly wouldn't hurt to remove it. If you decide to do so please do the following:

You can uninstall it using Add or Remove programs. Then have HJT fix these lines:

O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.net - {F4430FE8-2638-42e5-B849-800749B94EED} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming.net\PartyPokerNet\RunPF.exe
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.net - {F4430FE8-2638-42e5-B849-800749B94EED} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming.net\PartyPokerNet\RunPF.exe

Then using Windows Explorer delete this folder if present:

C:\Program Files\PartyGaming.net<–Folder

Regards,
Dave
OK Jim, carry on and bring home the millions with PartyPoker. I used to play quite a bit myself (in a former life) and never had any problem with crapware from the sites I used. And PP is pretty reputable.

Next, this sounds too easy but try right clicking (or alt clicking) on the MyWebSearch toolbar and see if there is an option to un-select it. Or something equivalent.

Let me know how you make out.

Dave
Hi Jim,

Also,

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on this:

F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

This is not a big issue but will simply restore the default value in your registry.

Dave
