I have tried repeatedly to remove Zlob from my computer and can't. I have used Norton, Windows Defender, Spybot, Ad-aware, and Hijack this. Is there anything else that I can do. The results of Hijackthis posted earlier today. Also, please remove the 2nd posting of Hijackthis - I submitted it twice by mistake.
Hi brayaand welcome to Tom Coyote forums

I am currently looking over your log. As I am an Undergraduate, everything that I post to you must be checked by an Admin or Moderator. Thus, there may be a tiny bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long. I will post back shortly with a potential fix.

Thanks for your patience!
Thanks dan
Hi braya

we need to put HJT into a permanent folder.
Create a folder on the desktop, right click on the desktop new folder and name it HJT. Now locate "HijackThis.exe" right click HijackThis.exe copy and
paste it into the folder you created on the desktop.
The reason I ask for this is, unless HJT is in its own folder it will not make backups and should things not go the way we want them to, we will be able to return to a point where we can start again.

Hi braya, Can you clear something up for me, I have asked twice to delete this entry:
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.startnow.com
but this HJT log and the last, it still remains.
Have you decided to keep it ?
Thanks dan
No, it won't go away! I have deleted it twice. Also, when I go into my control panel, "add/remove" there is "startnow toolbar" and "startnow navigation helper". Does this matter? And way back in your first e-mail to me you asked for me to "add/remove" Partygame. I didn't have "partgame", I have "partyPoker". I did not remove this because it wasn't "partygame". Should I have? Thanks Braya
Hi braya

Make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

[external image: Posted Image]

5. Click on the Save list… button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.

We need to temporarily disable the Real-time Protection on Windows Defender as it may interfere with the HijackThis fixes we make.
  • Open Windows Defender
  • Click Tools => General Settings
  • Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
  • Click Save
  • Close Windows Defender
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present)
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.startnow.com

WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit
please post uninstall report
Thanks dan

Hi braya

You have LimeWire 4.9.37 installed. This shows as Clean on the MWR list of P2P programs.
However, these type of programs add an unsecure access route for malware. It is your decision whether to uninstall these or to leave it.

This program is very likely the reason your system is infested with malware. Even when a program like this is not infected itself, it will still bring malware into your system because more than half of all files available for download from peer-to-peer networks have been deliberately infected with some form of malware. I strongly recommend that you remove this program from your system.

Go to Start > Run, and paste the following into the box, then click OK:

regedit /a C:\run.txt HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page

That will export the contents of the Registry Machine Run key to a C:\Run.txt file

Do a copy and paste of the contents of the Run.txt file here.

Delete programs
  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs
  • Find and click Remove for the following (if present). It could be that they have a space or something between it , but it has to look like it:
  • PartyPoker, Startnow Navigation Helper, Startnow Toolbar
**Take care when answering any questions posed by an uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into keeping the program.
I think you know the drill by now!

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present)
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.startnow.com

WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit

Please include new HJT log,
in your next post
Thanks dan
I ran that line in the "Run" part of "start" but did not receive any .txt file. I did a search but to no avail! I deleted the partypoker but when I tried to delete the other 2 - this is what it says: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternative path to a folder containing the installation package NavHelperInner.msi' in the box below" I click OK, and the following pops up: "The path C:\programfiles\WarezP2PClient\NavHelperInner.msi' cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package NavHelperInner.msi' in the folder from which you can install the product startnow navigation helper." I click OK "The installation source for this product is not available. Varify that the source exists and that you can access it." How do I fix this?
Hi braya

Ok, there is always another way, let's try this.

reg export "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" C:\export.reg

Please copy and paste into notepad the txt in the quote box.
save as "export.bat" without quotes! file type, all files, and save it to your desktop.
You will now have an icon on the desktop. Double click the icon the screen will come on and go off this is normal.
Now go to c: drive and find "C:\export.reg" right click, edit
copy and paste the txt to the forum.
Thanks dan
