A Warning List.com has taken over my home page and appears on start up. I also have a System Alert: Trojan-SpyWon32@mx popping up next to, of all things, my Mcafee Shield!

Step 1

Please Download SmitfraudFix by S!Ri from either of these mirrors to your desktop:

Right click SmitfraudFix.zip and Extract (unzip) the SmitfraudFix folder inside to your desktop.

Please Reboot your System into Safe Mode
Shut down your system, then Restart your computer as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. from the menu select the option to enter Safe Mode

open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

This is an ad supported desktop weather applicaton that provides updates on weather conditions and displays real time temperatures in the taskbar icon.

Now Reboot Your System

Hello,
Here are my results: BTW will this end the dreaded "run a dll as an App" and the closing down of anything I could be into at the time? I have been unable to run anything in my search bar, system restore was shut down and I had to delete 'compressed old files' in the disk cleanup program, (it would just disappear).
Would all of these things be related?

Step 1

Scan with HijackThis again and place a checkmark in the boxes before the following entries:

O9 - Extra button: WeatherBug - {AF6CABAB-61F9-4f12-A198-B7D41EF1CB52} - C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe (file missing) (HKCU)

Close any Explorer windows which may be open and click the "Fix Checked" button.


Please Download and run CCleaner
Double click on the file to start the installation of the program.
Select your language and click OK, then next.
Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
Click next to use the default install location. Click Install then finish to complete installation.
Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
Click Run Cleaner to run the program.
Caution: It is not recommended to use the 'Issues' tab as it allegedly find's legitimate items.
After it has completed it's process, click Exit.


Step 2

Now please download AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

The program should launch automatically after installation. If not, double-click the desktop icon.

Deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

Now Update AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5
click the "Update" icon from the main menu.
Then click the "Start Update" button.
When you receive the "Update successful" prompt, close AVG AS.
Note: If you have any problems with the updater, you can Update AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 Manually.
Do not Scan with this yet!

Please Reboot your System into Safe Mode Shut down your system, then Restart your computer
as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8 from the menu select the option to enter Safe Mode

Reopen AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 and click the "Scanner" icon from the main menu.
Click "Complete System Scan" to start scanning.
When the scan completes, click "Recommended action" beneath the results window and select "Quarantine".
Then click the "Apply all actions" button to quarantine everything detected.
Then click Save report > Save report as and save the AVG Report-Scan.txt to your desktop.
Then Reboot back into Normal Mode

I can't believe SpyMarshall was still there. And the Downloader Trojan, McAfee keeps saying its
been deleted. I need to learn more about protection. Thanks a bunch!

Now like to Recommend another check on SpyMarshall first can you please remove SmitfraudFix by S!Ri from your system
As I would now like you to Download the scan your system with the lastest version SmitfraudFix by S!Ri now at 2.137

Right click SmitfraudFix.zip and Extract (unzip) the SmitfraudFix folder inside to your desktop.
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click "smitfraudfix.cmd"
Select option #1 - "Search" by typing "1" and press "Enter".
Please copy & paste the SmitfraudFix text file which appears back here please.


Step 2

Click here to download AVG Anti Rootkit and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click on the AVG_AntiRootkit_1.0.0.13.exe file to run it.
  • Click "I Agree" to agree to the EULA.
  • By default it will install to "G:\Program Files\GRISOFT\AVG Anti-Rootkit Beta".
  • Click "Next" to begin the installation then click "Install".
  • It will then ask you to reboot now to finish the installation.
  • Click "Finish" and your computer will reboot.
  • After it reboots, double-click on the AVG Anti-Rootkit Beta shortcut that is now on your desktop.
  • Click on the "Perform in-depth search" button to begin the scan.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it complete.
  • When the scan is finished, click the "Save result to file" button.
  • Save the scan results to your desktop then come back here to copy and paste the results in your next reply to this thread.
Please post the SmitfraudFix and AVG_AntiRootkit logs in your next reply

Download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads a text file will open (report.txt), you can close it - the file has already been saved.

Please post the report.txt back to me….

It me again Willy (lol) I cannot get this program to work. It put an icon on my desktop, but when I doubleclick it and choose to run, a black dos box comes up for a second, the disappears within 2 seconds. There is no install option no matter what I do. I tried both links with the same results and the only thing that appeared was McAfee tell me my computer was no longer protected. I rebooted, the warning went away but there is no report.txt Thanks.

Can you Re-scan with AVG Anti Rootkit and select and fix this entry: C:\Windows\System32\csexr.exe

Now please Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.
Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts,
then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat

Select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter.

This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2,
notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you you are asked to do so!

the AVG rootkill did not produce the same path as last time. This time it read: C;|Window\System32\CSWWU.exe. I did not delete, should I have? If I run it again and it comes up with any other name, should I remove it? but Yes please have AVG Anti Rootkit fix that entry.. Then Run CCleaner again to give this system a little clean

Now use Internet Explorer and run The Panda Online Activescan
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm

Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button.
A new window will open…click the Check Now button.
Enter your Country.
Enter your State/Province.
Enter your e-mail address and click send.
Select either Home User or Company.
Click the big Scan Now button.
If it wants to install an ActiveX component, allow it to.
It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a minute or two).
When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan.
When the scan completes, click the See Report button, then Save Report, and save it to your desktop.

and if you could please try running Fixwareout again for me..

Hello again,
System is running good, start up is slow but there are no warnings coming up. I am now able to search and run the add and remove program without the dll error coming up.
