Here is my log from today, I have tried my hardest to get rid of all my old spyware removers and such. But it seems as though one good virus has contaminated all of my spyware removers… including avast, mcafee, aol and my HP updates. I'm not too sure of what I can do at this point if the computer will not let me delete many of the key files of my virus removers.

Hi Cheo and welcome to the forums here at Tom Coyote.

I am assuming that you didn't install Firedaemon. Is that correct? Here is some more information on that program. Firedaemon itself is not dangerous but seems to have been used with malicious intent in many cases, this may be one. It could also be hiding other "stuff" that you do not want. So we will likely need to run some other scans to see what can be found. Read up here and then go ahead with the fix if this wasn't installed by you.

http://forums.firedaemon.com/viewtopic.php?t=18

If you want to go ahead and try to remove it then do the following:* Go to Start> Run and type in services.msc then press Enter
* Scroll down to FireDaemon Service: msagent
* Double Click that service to open it.
* Click on Stop Service.
* Then change the Startup Type to Disabled.
* Scroll down to FireDaemon Service: netclient
* Double Click that service to open it.
* Click on Stop Service.
* Then change the Startup Type to Disabled.
* Scroll down to FireDaemon Service: winsecure
* Double Click that service to open it.
* Click on Stop Service.
* Then change the Startup Type to Disabled.
* OK your way out of the program.
Open HijackThis > Click Misc Tools > Delete an NT Service* Type in msagent
* Then click on OK, it will ask you to reboot, do so.

Do this again for netclient

* Open HJT > Misc Tools > Delete an NT Service
* Type in netclient
* Then click on OK, it will ask you to reboot, do so.

Do this one more time for winsecure
* Type in winsecure
* Then click on OK, it will ask you to reboot, do so.
They may be gone now but do this and fix if present.
Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O23 - Service: FireDaemon Service: msagent (msagent) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\security\FireDaemon.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: FireDaemon Service: netclient (netclient) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\security\FireDaemon.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: FireDaemon Service: winsecure (winsecure) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\security\FireDaemon.exe (file missing)

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

Have you any idea what this service is and what it does:
O23 - Service: Messenger Sharing USN Journal Reader service (usnsvc) - Unknown owner - C:\Program.exe (file missing)

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.

Under Main select the following:
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

At this point post a new HJT log and let me know where things are at. It is likely that I want you to run some more scans but let's start here first.

Regards,
Dave
Thank you so much IndiGenus, I have gotten rid of all of the original FireDaemon services.
The "O23 - Service: Messenger Sharing USN Journal Reader service" is reliant on "Event Log" and "Remote Procedure Call (RPC) and may be affiliated with the "Messenger" service; which states that it…
"Transmits net send and Alerter service messages between clients and servers. This service is not related to Windows Messenger. If this service is stopped, Alerter messages will not be transmitted. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start."
I was also wondering if

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] "RUNDLL32.EXE" C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
Has anything to do with firedaemon. But just because of name similarities.

Hi Cheo,

I was also wondering if
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] "RUNDLL32.EXE" C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
Has anything to do with firedaemon. But just because of name similarities.

No, that is a legitimate item and is related to overclocking your graphics card. This is from the CastleCops database on this item:

Intializes the clock and memory settings on nVidia based graphics cards. Enable if you overclock your card.

Many (if not most) times Malware names itself something very similar to legitimate Windows items, for fairly obvious reasons.

Messenger Sharing USN Journal Reader Service. The USN journal service is what does all the sycronization.
Is this something you use?

Looks like you were able to uninstall your security software. What worries me now is you do not appear to have any Anti-Virus program running. Is this so?
If so I would put one in place ASAP. I noticed you were using Avast before. Is there any reason that you removed it?

At this point I recommend that you run some scans. AVG for spyware and an online virus scan.

Download AVG Anti-Spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program. The program can still be used after 30 days but loses some of the features such as real time scanning.
  • Load AVG Anti-Spyware and then click the Update tab at the top. Under Manual Update click Start update.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Then click on the Scanner tab at the top. Click the "Settings" tab and then change the recommended action to Quarantine and click Automatically generate report after every scan. Click back to the "Scan" tab and then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run, so be prepared.
  • AVG Anti-Spyware will list any infections found on the left hand side. When the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. AVG Anti-Spyware will display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.
  • Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again (like on the Desktop).
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot!
Using Internet Explorer, click on Kaspersky Online Scanner * You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click 'Yes'.
* The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
* Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click 'Next'.
* Now click on 'Scan Settings'
* In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database: 'Extended' (If available, otherwise 'Standard')
o Scan Options: 'Scan Archives' and 'Scan Mail Bases'
* Click 'OK'
* Now under 'Select a target to scan' select 'My Computer'
* The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete, it will display whether your system has been infected.
* Now click on the 'Save as Text' button:
* Save the file to your desktop.
Please post the Kaspersky report and a new HijackThis log. Please also post an AVG log if anything was found and let me know how things are running at this point.

Regards,
Dave
Thank you for all of your help. My computer is running perfectly. I used AVG and kaspersky and no threats were found. Once again, Thank you. If I have any problems in the near future, I know where to go now (finally). -Cheo
Hi Cheo,

Glad to hear things are running better. :thumbup:

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. Here is a list of some free and evaluation versions to try: AVG AntiVirus
Avast Antivirus Home Version–Free
Online Scanners:
Trend Micro Housecall
Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. Here are some free and evalutation versions that provide
better security than the Windows Firewall.Kerio Personal Firewall
Zone Alarm Free
Outpost Firewall
For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some other available ones see the link below:
Understanding and Using Firewalls

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly or set your computer to receive automatic updates. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Spybot: Search And Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection.
