Removing Pipas A

I repeatedly run Spybot Search and Destroy and it keeps coming up with Pipas.A even if I remove it. My compter is running slower and Google links keep redirecting me to porn links and other such filth! Can anyone please help as this is starting to do my head in. I use Avast antivirus home edition and this keeps coming up with viruses when I run a check. What am I supposed to do with these when they have been removed to the virus chest?

OK Stu,

That gives us something to work with…so let's get to it.

I recommend you print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new HijackThis log.

Now lets check some settings on your system.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable on some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)

Thanks,

OK Stu, we're getting there.

I have a question. Are you running both Norton and Avast Anti-Virus programs together? If so please read the following.

There appears to be two Anti-Virus programs running real time protection, Norton/Symantec and Avast. This can cause many issues including system slow down, conflicts, ect…
You can keep both installed but just use one for real-time scanning and disable the other. The disabled program can still be used for one-time scans.

In general you never want to run 2 Anti-Virus or Firewall programs at the same time. Other types of Spyware protection such as Spybot, SpywareBlaster, ect… are usually OK (and recommended) to have multiple programs running for layered protection.

To finish the fix please do the following.

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
Please reverse this process once the fix is complete.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode by restarting your computer and tap the F8 key just before Windows starts to load. This will bring up the Advanced Options Menu.
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Select the Operating System that you would like to start and press Enter (note: if there is only one simply press Enter).

Using Windows Explorer please delete the following files if found:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMCHZ.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMCUX.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMIOA.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMLUR.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMOBH.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMQUU.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMQXD.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMRLG.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMSAD.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMWMD.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMWQP.EXE

Now reboot into Normal Mode.

Using Internet Explorer, click on Kaspersky Online Scanner * You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click 'Yes'.
* The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
* Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click 'Next'.
* Now click on 'Scan Settings'
* In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database: 'Extended' (If available, otherwise 'Standard')
o Scan Options: 'Scan Archives' and 'Scan Mail Bases'
* Click 'OK'
* Now under 'Select a target to scan' select 'My Computer'
* The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete, it will display whether your system has been infected.
* Now click on the 'Save as Text' button:
* Save the file to your desktop.
Please post the Kaspersky report and a new HijackThis log. Also let me know how things are running.

Dave
Here are the Kaspersky and Hijack this log files.

Thanks Stu
Hi Stu,

Kaspersky mainly found things in your restore points and temp files, ect…and we can clean those up now. We'll set a fresh restore point, clean out your old ones, and do some other clean up now. I also recommend that you update your Java at this point. Instructions below.

Before we clean up though it looks like we missed one of the file deletions from my last instructions. Either it was missed or it's being stubborn. Let's use Pocket Killbox to remove it in case it is being stubborn.

Download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop

Double-click Killbox.exe to run it.

Select "Delete on Reboot".
Place the following line (complete path) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\dmrlg.exe

Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which may be infected anyway).

Click Start>Help and Support>Undo changes to your computer with System Restore
Select Create A Restore Point then click Next. Give it a name it and then click Create

Click Start>Run and type Cleanmgr
Click the More Options Tab.
Click Clean Up in the System Restore section.

Use ATF Cleaner to remove temp files, cookies, cache, ect…

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.

Under Main select the following:
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

Your Java Runtime Environment is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Enviroinment (JRE) 6, The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save it to your desktop (12.6 MB).
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially any web browsers.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windowsi586.exe to install the newest version.
Hopefully these steps should get you all clean. Post a fresh HJT log and let me know how things are running.

Dave
Here is the latest hijack this log. I couldn't remove a java runscript from the remove/ad program in the contol panel. But I have installed the new version.

I will run a spybot check and let you know how things are running.

Hi stu, Yes…it's appears to be "mutating", probably when you reboot your computer, and I can now see it in this line in your HJT log. O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmcky.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmcky.exe OK, let's try this. Run Fixwareout again as I instructed earlier in the thread, give me a fresh HJT log, along with the report.txt from the Fixwareout tool.
Here are the fixware and hijack this logs.

Hey storm just happened to be at my PC when you just posted. Looks like Fixwareout got it…but will it "morph" and come back? Possibly. Let's see how things run for now. Reboot and run Spybot a couple times over the next few days if needed. Hopefully it won't be back. If so we will have to attack it a little differently. Regards, Dave Post back with findings and a new HJT log when you get a chance.
Hi here is the latest hijack this log.
