I was directed to post my problem in this forum by Paws on Jan. 16: (http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?showtopic=74961&st=0&gopid=345396&#entry345396)

While attempting to diagnose a problem with Quicktime 7.1.3, I discovered in this folder:
Winnt\Installer\{929408E6-D265-4174-805F-81D1D914E2A4}, a file named Quicktimeplayer_ico.exe. I right-clicked on Properties and clicked through the tabs. When I got to Program, it said the name of the file was Fuicktimeplayer_ico.exe! No kidding! It was 22kb and last modified on Jan. 19, 2006. Naturally I became suspicious and suspected this was the source of my problems.

A google & copernic search turned up zero. Anyone see this file in their computers?

Thanks for waiting . . . I feel much better now.
* Download Combofix to your desktop.
Doubleclick combo.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When finished, it should produce a log, combofix.txt.

I find it odd that I've never found any references to Fuicktimeplayer_ico.exe in any search engine. How can I be the only one with such a thing? I saved it to a floppy and then deleted it. When I reinstalled QT 7.1.3, I didn't find any such entry where the 'F' version had been.

Also, it seems that the differences between QT 6 & 7 were very large. The file at fault crashing IE & FF seemed to be quicktimeh264.qtx. Searching on this revealed others with similiar browser crashing problems while attempting to play QT content on Apple's site, but no explanations for this behavior. I'm wondering if QT 7.1.3 will even work on my system using an old AMD K6III+ 450MHz processor. Perhaps it's too old? I remember when Google Earth came out, this machine was way too slow for it. It didn't hang the browser though.

I find it interesting that after a fresh install of QT 7.1.3, I'm not even able to play the sample QT movie in the folder! Without even opening up a browser. It's almost like some piece of QT or some file it uses is hanging around that I'm unable to delete. I'm perplexed . . . .never had this much trouble before . . . .
First, what's your opinion of the log files I've posted? Any viruses/mal-ware/spyware present? Second, before reinstalling QT yet again, I plan on cleaning out any references to it, itunes, apple, real, etc. in the registry and making sure that NO files are present. I didn't bother to clean out any old registry entries before. Third, I didn't realize that Flash was required to view QT content on apple's site. I briefly read your posted link. Have to think about it. I have tested my flash player and made sure it's up to date. I've also played around a bit with the preferences within QT. I thought perhaps I had a problem allowing streaming content to feed into QT. I'll do some further work into this and post back. Thanks.
I don't know about QT. I just googled the error you were getting and found that link.

Your log looks good but I don't see a anti-virus program running. Get this free one.
